My phone overheated due to unknown reasons. When i took it out of my bag it was too hot and have shutdown itself. I brought it to the store where I have purchased it and their telling me that the service center says that it would cost me more than the price of the phone (the basic model) when it was released 2 years ago. How come that the part costs more than the actual phone??

This is a known issue - due to poor soldering of the chip. You should have it replaced under warranty. If the warranty is over, then look for service centers that deal with chip soldering (reball) . Nothing needs to be changed, only soldering (reball) of the chip.
