RT-BE92U Persistent Thermal Zone Faults

RicoSuave

First post here so bear with me if I miss anything. Since purchase, my RT-BE92U has been plagued with the same issues others have posted here. Up until the new firmware version dropped, I was having constant problems with network stability. I am currently running the latest firmware version (3.0.0.6.102_37435) and a lot of the issues seem to have been resolved except for one. Before the firmware update, I was seeing intermittent thermal zone errors in the system log. Since applying the update, I am consistently getting the following errors that appear every 3 seconds exactly:

Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: read_bpcm_reg_direct_keyhole: Wait for completion failed, devAddr 0x3, offset 24, idx 2
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get RAIL 0 temperature, ret=256
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get temperature, ret=-1
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: failed to read out thermal zone (-1)

On occasion, the errors coincide with a drastic decrease in wireless network performance. Under normal conditions, when connected to the 6GHz network, my wireless network download speed averages around 1100Mbps. This will drop to a nearly unusable 2-3Mbps. The 2.5GHz and 5GHz networks also see a decrease in speed to around the same 2-3Mbps. Wired clients seem unaffected. Once I perform a hard reset to the router, it seems to correct the speed issue for a while, but the thermal zone errors continue to persist. This seems to happen anywhere from once a week, to every day. Performing a hard reset isn't something I want to nor should have to keep doing to correct the issue every time it happens. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to stop this from happening. I am getting very close to returning this router and exchanging it for a different brand. Thanks.

Stability is still my main concern, but there are a bunch of other buggy areas with the firmware, the latest I found is with the Client List displaying only dashes for any Wifi7 client on 6GHz.  My Wifi6E and Wifi5 displays just fine.

It would be nice to see Tx, Rx, and Access time for wifi7 connected devices.  I have 2 BE200 cards and neither show any info unless I force them to connect at 802.11ax.

I too am having this issue

Feb 15 05:10:00 kernel: read_bpcm_reg_direct_keyhole: Wait for completion failed, devAddr 0x3, offset 24, idx 2
Feb 15 05:10:00 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get RAIL 0 temperature, ret=256
Feb 15 05:10:00 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get temperature, ret=-1
Feb 15 05:10:00 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: failed to read out thermal zone (-1)

These messages occur every 2 to 10 seconds.

I performed a hard reset, issue went away for about 12 hours opened case Case No=N2502017157-0001

Is there newer firmware then this:

37803 is the latest i am aware of but it does not address the thermal error or many of the stability issues reported. factory resetting mine now, boxing up, returning to best buy, ill check back in a few months hope the router turns stable with additional firmware, cheers!

Mine was rebooting every 1-2hrs no matter what settings I changed, same thermal issues in log everyone else has repeatedly. Upgraded to 37803 that was posted in the other forum and that fixed the stability issues, but now my Internet speed has slowed to a crawl, streaming keeps buffering, speed test around 35MB down. When I first set the router up and did a speed test I was getting 1200MB down (pay for 1GB). I plugged directly in modem and getting 1GB down still, but through the BE92U, I can't get above 35MB down, if I turn off all the AIProtection features I get up to 100MB, but even after a hard reset and just setting up my initial network I still can't get above 100MB. Fortunately I still have a return window to March 8 on Amazon so this piece of junk is going back. Asus you really tarnished your rep with this one, I had an old Wifi 5 model for years with no issues that this replaced. I see on other forums the BE96U is also a hot mess so unless I go to the BE98 Pro, which would I want to give you even more money at this point, as much as it pains me I am considering switching vendors.

Just over 24 hours ago I updated to 9.0.0.6.102_37803. So far no thermal errors in my system log. Performance seems fine, although I only have 100Mb download and 10Mbit upload, so perhaps I am not over running the router buffers????
