AiMesh n00b needs ethernet speed on opposite side of long house

My Asus DSL-AC68U is currently running as router-only with a DSL modem. It's connected to a Devolo  dLAN 1200 powerline system, which provides 2x WiFi and 1x ethernet points across the house.  The ethernet speed is about 120Mbps at my desktop PC, which is slow but tolerable.

My ISP has just announced Fibre to the Premises, and I want to take full advantage of the increased speed, not least the much faster upload speeds. Plus it would be nice to be able to copy files to the USB HDD on the AC68U faster than 15MB/s.

It's an old 1950s house with brick interior walls, and the PC is just about as far from the DSL socket as possible, ond on a different floor. The only practical way to do ethernet is around the outside of the house. I asked some friends, and got a mixture of recommendations including newer powerlines and range extenders. Ideally, I'd like ethernet, as my desktop doesn't have WiFi (though it could have, if necessary).

The only suggestion I couldn't dismiss was Mesh. I am told it can be as fast as ethernet, though more laggy. Only problem is, I don't have any practical experience with Mesh, and don't really understand what I need. I believe AiMesh is a proprietary system, so I'd need to stay with Asus or replace my router. I'm finding hard to believe that I'd need to buy a load of routers and plug them in all over the house. Can some wise person please help me work out what I need?

Fiber is the future.  When the installer comes have him run the fiber to the most central spot in the house.  (S)he may need to drill a hole in an exterior wall to bring the fiber in.  Consider replacing the current router, as AC is WiFi 5 and the current release is WiFi 7.  You could still likely use the router as an AiMesh node.

There are probably a lot of questions still from your description it isn't clear on how to direct you.  But that is the typical advice to centralize the main router...

Here's the house layout, if that helps. I'm told the fibre will come (from the nearby telephone pole) to the same point , which is the apex of the gable end. The cable then currently runs outside to the location marked DSL/ONT. The downstairs internal walls are all brick and plaster. Wifi/ethernet is needed in the downstairs office (green) and the diner/snug, as well as the upstairs office (which is above the entrance hall and porch). The EV chargepoint needs WiFi too.
I put wifi powerlines in the downstairs office and entrance hall, and the ethernet powerline is in the upstairs office. Even now, the wifi isn't great in the diner/snug, presumably because of the cavity brick wall.

I'm not fond of power line and it is not very popular.  I could see them make an entry into the living room near the pink room in the lower left.  Run along the wall and make an entry into the office if needed, or place a router there right on the other side and have WiFi in the living room. Looks like along the "South" wall of the living room is a straight shot to the "diner/snug".  May take some effort and a new drill bit....

I am not an artist.  I believe my artistry level is below 1st grade here in the USA.  But I tried...
