Latest Prime Z790P BIOS still does not comply with Intel recommendations

Hello,

I have a Prime Z790P motherboard with a 13900K CPU and I downloaded the latest BIOS with Intel Performance and Extreme profiles, 1658 from 31/05/2024. I wanted to use these profiles to stick to the recommendations from Intel.

However, when using either of these profiles, the AC and DC loadline values are 0.5 and 1.0, while Intel recommends that AC and DC values are equal. Because of this reason I had to disable the current excursion protection (CEP) settings, otherwise I would be subject to clock stretching and the performance of the CPU would be drastically reduced.

Is this a bug? Will it be fixed in the next BIOS?

Hello, @IlCode85

Thank you for the provided images.
Upon verification, it is confirmed that when the SVID Behavior in the BIOS is set to [Auto] as shown in your images, the AC/DC Loadline is 0.5/1.1 mOhm.
We recommend you check all BIOS settings at the default configuration.

Thank you.

Hello @Jiaszzz_ASUS ,

You are right, the default setting for SVID Behavior is "Intel Fail Safe". I changed it to Auto as I thought that was a mistake. In my opinion "Intel Fail Safe" settings should be set only in the worst case scenario, in case of the worst combination of motherboard and CPU, which is not my case.

If I set SVID Behavior at the default setting of "Intel Fail Safe" AC and DC values are both at 1.1. So this complies with Intel recommendations. However, this impact performance as with cinebench23 I get a decrease in multi core performance of around 7%.

I would suggest people working on this BIOS to further improve the settings in future versions as Intel Fail Safe settings are not what Intel recommends for users like me who have a good combination of motherboard and CPU. Intel Fail Safe settings should only be applied in the worst case combination of motherboard and CPU.
