my local disk drive D has suddenly disappeared off my ASUS laptop and i don't know how to reinstall it, will i need to do a complete laptop restore as all my restore points have also disappeared from local drive C

details are not enough.
If your laptop comes with single harddisk or one SSD only with two partitions namely C and D.
or else the laptop comes with one SSD with C windows partition, and separate one harddisk with D partition.
If possible, boot the windows os into safe mode and see those appear in windows explorer
