Hi 1st i would like to say i love this phone! No bugs to report using latest update. I just would like to know if and how i change video output of the phone. I have games working in portrait mode, which i would like to play using a external monitor. I have rotated the monitor screen to fit portrait mode (vertical), however cannot get the output to fit it as it keeps displaying horizontal screen using hdmi. Is there an option to rotate screen output from phone to external monitor so i can play in portrait mode? Thanks!

If you go to the Apps listing, press on the 3 dots top right and then Preferences.

Now press on Homescreen and scroll down and you will see a couple of rotate options. Give those a try to see if any of those help.

  • This should be easily accessible and i expect a gaming phone to have this option... What app listing do you mean? Armory crate? If i go to app settings over there hardly any options are offered to change anything and no rotation options offered. This is really disappointing. Why is there no option screen for video out anywhere? I had the feeling asus knew what they were doing...

Go to the home screen and press on a blank spacing for a couple of seconds.

    From there, choose Preference.

So yeah i changed those options already but with no result, this is really stupid to not add any options for video out....

This is a gaming phone right? Is it too much to expect to be able to play the games the way i like?

There are lots of games played in portrait mode....

  • Yeah. There is no way to do this unless you use an app. Which would probably also need root.

Asus will have to add the option for us to manually rotate the screen while docked if you want to play with your monitor rotated on its side.

I tried to use one of my old apps that I used to have on my Nvidia Shield Tablet, which let me force the display to any rotation I wanted. But it doesn't seem to work. Asus seems to completely disable its ability to rotate the screen when docked.

Im starting to understand why most people dont care for these "gaming" phones as long as they are half baked like this and dont actually provide features for gaming that people in the real world use... I guess this will be my last "gaming" phone, whats the use if i still need a android emulator on my pc to play my games on a screen thats larger then half a piece of toilet paper? 😓

This "overclocking" is a scam too, Snapdragon 855+ can hit 2.96 GHz Kryo with 1 core only and you cannot go past this speed which would actually be overclocking.

Next to this i expect a fps counter on screen all the time while playing games, not a side screen that has to be opened which doesn't let you play the game anymore and goes away when you tab your game again.

If you have one, Smart TV seems to be fine for me.

For PCs there are things like AllCast, Apowersoft Screen Mirroring (which allows USB connectivity) and Vysor.

  • I cannot turn my tv in portrait mode 😂

The proccessor is already overclocked for you from 2.84ghz, so we dont have to :')

The bar with the FPS counter does still appear when you reopen the game?

Every other phone with the same chip has the same speed, we can only turn cores off which isn't a overclock or a underclock. Getting cores past factory speed would be an overclock. No, there is no on screen fps counter that keeps showing fps even while playing the game. I have a smart tv and it presents the same problem, i have no options using this phone to change screen output to my liking. Dont get me wrong i like this phone, hardware wise, so far but the options on the software part are lacking.

You can show FPS on screen all the time.

Settings - Advanced - Game Genie - Real-time info management

You need to have the game/app added to Armoury Crate for it to work.

As for the Overclocking/Clock speeds. Yeah. It's pretty deceptive. Game Genie says I am running at 2.96 Ghz. But I can run Aida 64 and it reports it never hitting or staying at those speeds. Even though Game Genie and Armoury Crate reports that it is.

My games seem to run fine though. So whatever.

I have these options on and it is not showing fps, so maybe only for very specific games? So like i said before these options are useless in the actual real world.

Nvm finely got it to work, needed to activate realtime information in side bar also while already having it on in settings for atleast the fps counter.
