Inspite of reaching out on social media and here asus team just doesn't want accept the fact that the camera is messed up with no support for Google camera. The stock camera has gone from a flagship level to a mid range level but all asus cares about is organizing fan meets with Geeky Ranjit. I thought you guys gave a bunch of phones to Dev's to get custom rom support which never came out. Earlier atleast we were able to use the gcam now thanks to you guys that also doesn't work. I have paid for a premium device but thanks to you guys who are making it average day by day. Thank you for conning your users.

  • First, the double-negation it the title states positive. Second, you can't expect official Google Camera support l because it's their proprietary software. There's no source code available and it can be only shipped with Google Pixels. There are two unofficial modders trying to make it useable but they have to use workarounds for everything.

Here are some of the logcat for gcam version 7.2 issue. It looks like gcam unable to store a file for processing hdr. It stuck at processing hdr

Other phones with android 10 don't have this issue at all. Even on zenfone 5z q beta with same gcam 7.2 doesn't have this problem.

I hope asus can figure that out someday. Some people were went back to android 9 because of this.

  • Asus can't do anything about it,..you just need to wait for a mod that would work on 6z untill then there's nothing they can do cause its not their problem to begin with

  • It is a issue with asus if you understand what that logcat states. The stock camera also has massive issues to start with tint and no dynamic range. I think that's not a problem from asus as well. I guess i have to reach out to Flipkart right.

ASUS sent phones to developers so they could some cool projects could work well on this phone. It's the main reason why I picked this phone over others, with price and functionality (sd card, headphone jack) coming second.

While no one expects ASUS to create an official Google Camera app for this phone or a 100% stable build of LineageOS, they sent those devices for a reason. They should now keep things simple and make the life of these guys easier, specially when so far ASUS can't do a good job with their camera app, even though it has a good sensor.

The Google Camera port, versions 7.1 and 7.2, works well on Android 10 running on phones from brands like Xiaomi. It was working well on this phone on Android 9 and apparently stopped working after one of the Android 10 betas. The difference is that we know for a fact that Xiaomi tests and makes changes on their side so GCam works better, while ASUS probably doesn't.

If ASUS can't improve the camera quality on this phone, they should at least try not to break the alternatives we are essentially forced to use due to their incompetence. It's not acceptable, on a phone were the camera was the main feature, to have an official app that can't deal with big dynamic ranges, have an HDR Enhance technology that screw ups the image if there is too much movement, or creates images from the 2nd camera that looks like what I was getting from a phone 4 or 5 years ago.

Also, if someone from ASUS reads this, keep in mind that the Asia trend to have soft and blury images is not popular everywhere. Google, for example, is praised for their image quality and images are sharp.

  • I second this the only reason asus is a failure in sales is due to their rigidness of not improving and taking feedback. Look at One Plus. Though i dont want to compare. But i still remember asus was marketing this device by sharing videos of the developers who went through so much to create this marvelous device. But now it all seems like a marketing gimmick. They just gave android 10 in a hurry to make it up with the competitors but messed their main reason for this device is their camera. Since the upgrade the camera is below average and it's not accepted with a flagship device. If rog 2 is your main focus then why take out devices and then get messed up. I must say this is taking asus steps behind in being the best mid range flagship brand.

  • @S4t @gunmanrishi

Guys, I'm not saying that Asus can't do anything about their camera and I do understand they sent their devices to developers. If you feel they're not doing anything even though they took the phone, go to XDA forums.

Google Camera was working on Pie because they had the phone and made it work. Apparently it was working on Android 10 beta, but it stopped working after one update.

Arnova8G2, Savitar, and Urnyx05 have tried to make it work on the current Android 10 build without success. Arnova8G2 and Urnyx05 support other Xiaomi and OnePlus phones and GCam works without any problem on Android 10.

ASUS changed or broke something and that change ended up breaking GCam too. That's why I'm complaining here, not on XDA.

  • True....Dynamic range WAS AND IS an issue they need to deal with and artificial light performance is not upto the mark

I'm satisfied with day light photos but dynamic range takes a hit sometimes but then agin rare in good lighting conditions

@Anders_ASUS, @LP_ASUS and @CH_ASUS could you please reply to this thread.

Please do not post standard replies like 'We are not google camera team or we do not have that much of fund to spend on this,or we are good compare to other's." clearly that's not the case here not just a few of us here there are hell lot of people who have the same issues.

I would urge other's to post sample images showing what the actual issue is and I would be doing the same although if you need details you can go through the telegram group for Zenfone 6/6Z we have posted and discussed there N number of times since the update to Q.

Also for the gcam issues faced by the developers managing those apk i get it that you people do not have access or can't do anything about it but I believe phones were handed out to xda developer's for improving the app support and for custom rom development at least reach out to those people as they have blockers that are pending from your side (again got this from telegram group where the developers are there as well) as after Android Q update other phones do not have issues with gcam only our phones have got stuck at processing images.

Kudos to the team for bringing us Android Q as soon as possible but accept the fact that there are issues ( the notification panel has a gap between the clock and the message that we see from apps looks really weird,I am facing a lag when using finger print scanner to unlock did a hard reset but still definitely feels slower than it was on Pie,these are from my usage there are others with more I believe ).

I expect a positive response from you people and hope to see fixes in the upcoming updates.

We paid a premium price for a flagship phone please maintain that reputation of your's if you want your customer base to grow.

  • @Anders_ASUS @LP_ASUS @CH_ASUS we thank you for bringing us android 10 but i have some contact I asus and what i am hearing is that due to the vendor issues you faced the camera has taken a hit. If this is true that just makes me think on the flip side did you guys test the stable build before rolling out android 10 to everyone.

  • I see that manufacturers make changes to their camera api from time to time, but I don't see why the change was needed when upgrading from P to Q. The camera app looks identical in P to Q, nor has the quality / speed changed significantly. If you can just secretly roll back the change / explain why the change in camera api was necessary, it would paint a better image of ASUS in the customer's eyes as it means that ASUS is not intentionally changing the way camera works just to infuriate the customer's who would like GCam on their phones.

  • And also, I am concerned about the security of all camera enthusiasts who stayed in Android P for keeping a working camera. It'll only ruin everyone's day if the news titled "ASUS phone hacked with spy program in China border control due to keeping older firmware for camera feature" eventually arrives in the future and people blame ASUS for the fault. It is never a great sign when you see people holding back updates, as it stands as a proof that the feature in older versions worth more than security.

Does the second image 48mp cam worth its size 15mb, kidding me or what look at the spots over that book , oh god. The 12mp one is 3mb, that's ok i can agree. I don't know what new reasons the mod would give. There are many feeds on camera with no proper reply. Hope we get a solution for this flagship(??????) device.

  • It has to be emphasized that we have nothing to do with Gcam. You can't expect it to always run perfectly because it's not a supported software. It's all up to the port developers to make it work when they feel like it. We haven't blocked anything and we're not allowed to actively trying to make this software work with our phones. It has to be done by people who have nothing to do with our organization.

The comparisons between our software and Googles are not fair. Everyone know that Google are the best when it comes to camera software for phones. It would be much more interesting to see comparisons to similar prized phones, both running stock camera software. Then we may talk.

If you want to find out how to run a stable GCam on your ZenFone 6 with Android 10, then you need to talk to the port developers. I know that it works. It's all i can say.

  • Why did the 12mp (3mb) file look better than the 48mp (15mb) file? Probably because you took the picture inside with normal lighting. 48mp mode needs very bright light or daylight to produce better images. We always recommend you to use 12mp. The 48mp mode is an additional feature that can produce some amazing results under the right conditions.

  • So when we capture a video, the camera is in 48mp or 12mp mode?

  • Neither :) Video uses a completely different format and resolution. There are alot of things that are different even though they use the same sensor

  • Very conveniently you got away with bunch of excuses. Leave the gcam what's with your own camera. Have you seen the night mode or even the dynamic range of the images produced by the stock camera. The least you can do is give excuses and act on the situation. I do not care about gcam as i understand it's not your headache. But the stock camera is. Rectify that. We didn't pay tunch of money to use a $100 phone camera.

  • Hey whats wrong with night node, this is really good enough, if you have an image taken by night node you can share it. But don't just leave out words. There was nothing wrong said by the mod, though there's any issue get into the discussion rather than being too mean.
