Very low OTG transferring speed - is my unit faulty?

Can someone with an OTG hard-drive check what speed they get when transferring files?

When I transfer files from my portable hard-drive via USB to my old budget Xiaomi Mi 9T, I get stable 30-32 MBps speed:

But when I copy the same file to my Zenfone 8, the speed is fluctuating between 2 MBps and 15 MBps:

The speed is fine when copying files directly from my laptop.

Because it runs on usb 2.0.
Not your faulty, all Zenfone are the same

Xiaomi Mi 9T also has usb 2.0 as per gsmarena.
