about a week ago I noticed my zenfone 10 stoped recognizing its fingerprint reader. I went ahead and ordered a replacement power button cable and fingerprint reader thinking something might have happened to them but after replacement the phone still does not see the fingerprint reader within android.

Hello @ckbro it sounds to me like it could be that the button does not match up with the hardware, for this please reach out to your closest ASUS Service Center.

could you elaborate on that a little? does a new fingerprint scanner need to be tied to the logic board in some way for the OS to see it?

Shouldn't have to, but there could be something wrong with the connection itself or a compatibility issue.
But as mentioned, the Service Center might be able to figure out what's going on.

Does a replacement fingerprint scanner need to be paired or calibrated with the phone’s logic board in order for the operating system to detect it? In other words, is there some kind of hardware-level or firmware-level binding between the fingerprint sensor and the mainboard that prevents a new (even working) sensor from being recognized by Android?
