Rooting and converting CN roms to WW roms has nothing to do with each other. You don't need to be rooted to do this.

What you do need is bootloader to be unlocked and while this can be re-locked by the firmware flashing dealer, you see some people complaining not being able to unlock bootloader. The reason why this is the case is the bootloader is already unlocked officially by the dealer.

Yes but once you unlocked the bootloader and even if after that you locked it with software the Asus server still considered it as unlocked and will not send you updates. I read this here on the forum only.
