I purchased the ROG Phone 8 Pro with high expectations, given its marketing as a high-end gaming device. However, my experience has been far from satisfactory, especially regarding thermal management and performance, even under optimal conditions.
Context and Situation:
My device (16GB RAM/512GB storage) faces critical issues with temperature and performance, both during live streaming sessions and regular gaming without streaming. This happens despite keeping everything updated, performing a hard reset, and ensuring a controlled environment:
Room temperature: 20°C (68°F).
Outdoor temperature: 9°C (48°F).
Below are the main issues in detail:
1. Overheating Issues:
The device reaches temperatures as high as 48°C (118°F), which is unacceptable for a product marketed as capable of delivering stable gaming performance. This occurs even without live streaming, indicating a poor thermal management system.
2. FPS Drops and Inconsistent Performance:
During gameplay, the FPS drops drastically, even in games configured to run at 120 FPS. This severely affects the gaming experience, leaving me with the impression that the so-called “high-end” specifications are not supported by optimized software.
3. Touch Panel Failures:
When the temperature exceeds 44°C (111°F), the touch panel becomes almost unusable. It fails to detect multiple touches and behaves erratically, completely ruining the possibility of competitive gaming. This is simply unacceptable for a device supposedly designed for demanding gamers.
My Critique:
Asus' marketing of the ROG Phone 8 Pro is misleading. They promise a premium gaming experience but deliver a device that cannot handle basic tasks without overheating or compromising user experience.
Actions Taken Without Results:
All firmware updates have been installed.
A hard reset was performed to rule out configuration issues.
Various performance and cooling settings have been tested with no success.
Questions:
1. Does Asus plan to address this issue through a software update, or should I resign myself to this being the device's maximum capability?
2. Is this behavior normal for the ROG Phone 8 Pro, or is my unit defective?
Conclusion:
As a consumer and gamer, I am deeply disappointed that a device with these specifications fails to deliver on the basic promises of performance and stability. I expect a prompt solution or, at the very least, an honest response from Asus.

I completely understand your frustration, and I appreciate the detailed breakdown of the issues you're facing with the ROG Phone 8 Pro. For a device marketed as a high-end gaming phone, these problems with thermal management, FPS stability, and touch responsiveness are indeed disappointing.
Your concerns are valid, and I believe Asus should address them promptly. Here are a few thoughts and suggestions:
Overheating and FPS Drops: It’s surprising that even in a controlled environment, the phone struggles with thermal management and consistent performance. Asus might need to optimize their firmware or gaming profiles to balance performance and cooling better. It would be helpful if they released a software update addressing these issues.
Touch Panel Failures: This is a critical problem, especially for competitive gamers. If the device can’t handle heat without affecting usability, it defeats its purpose. It might be worth checking with Asus support to see if this issue is widespread or specific to your unit.
Unit Defect Possibility: From what you’ve described, it’s hard to tell if this is a design flaw or a defect in your device. If you haven’t already, reaching out to Asus support directly might clarify whether your unit is functioning as intended. They might also offer a replacement if it’s defective.
Finally, I agree with your critique. Asus needs to provide transparency about these limitations and ensure their flagship devices meet the standards they advertise. I hope they take your feedback seriously and offer a resolution soon.

Honestly dude.. I think you might have a faulty phone... I game and stream here and there , and both at the same time... My phone gets alot warmer then it normally would.. but it's expected, just like a computer would also if doing thlse things.
But my phone's never had those effects that you say your phone does.. id definitely look into it .. especially if you have warranty on your device before it runs out.. Also did you hook up your fan cooler to it? I rarely use mine but when I notice it's warmer than usually.. it does a big difference to cooling it... So I'm assuming it would do alot to what's going on inside the phone and stop the overheating situation your having them dealing with a glitchy phone

Also if you downloaded the new update form a couple days ago .. id blame that .. because as soon as I downloaded it .. my charging kicks off every 10 secs when it's charging and screen looks weird.. like coulda like double vision/like it's tryna produce a 3D type look. But looking at different angles other Other than looking at it straight forward like we a normally supposed to it fixes.. until again , I look at it how were supposed to look at it
