ROG Phone 7 - Hotspot & tethering not working/no internet shared

Star II

Hi Guys,

I am experiencing an odd issue with the hotspot not sharing the internet connection by Wi-Fi or USB Tethering.

USB worked for 3 minutes when I initially connected the phone to my PC via the USB-C cable but it randomly disconnected and I was unable to get back the connection with subsequent attempts.

With the Wi-Fi I tried connecting my other Android phone, laptop & PC all resulted in the same outcome where all devices got connected but did not get any internet. Switching the SIM to an older phone hotspot worked flawlessly.

PC did get the IP address and I could ping the phone but pinging the just timed out.

Wi-Fi hotspot settings:
Hide SSID - No
Security WPA2-Personal - Tried None or WPA2/WPA3-Personal no difference
Type of Wi-Fi hotspot - Wi-Fi 5 (2.4 GHz or 5GHz)
AP Band - 2.4 GHz Band

Network & internet
Tried Private DNS - Off/Automatic no difference

Android 13
Latest update: 33.0820.0810.241

Hi @krystianhoro
I got a reply from the dev team and everything seems to be working normally so it might be a configuration issue.
They suggest to try deleting the Vodafone MISP APN and see it you can make it the default type APN

I did a full reset of all networking settings and restarted the phone a couple of times still nothing.

Hi @krystianhoro

I wonder if you could help me by creating a log recreating the issue, that way the dev team can look into what could be causing the issue, I will be writing the steps down below and when you are done feel free to send me a PM with the log file.

Please follow the below steps to enable the built-in log tool (Bug reporter).
1.  Open “Calculator APP”
2.  Enter “.19595+=”
3.  Select the Log type according to the type of issue you want to capture. “Phone, mobile networks, and signal”
4.  After your selection the log tool will exit so you can duplicate the issue or wait for it to happen. Try to use the screen recorder to show your issue when possible. If you can't screen record your issue, then please take a screenshot right after the issue has occurred (as a timestamp) so we know where to look in the log.
5.  Navigate back to the log tool via calculator and Tap "FINISH AND SHARE".
6. It takes several minutes for the log to generate. You can exit and do other stuff in the meantime. A silent notification will tell you once the process is done. Tap the notification and then the share button to upload the file to Google Drive and share the link with a moderator. Just make sure to change the permission first so that everyone with the link has permission to view it.
Note: When you're no longer planning on logging your device, enter “.09595+=” in the calculator and the log tool will stop as well as deleting all stored log files. Make sure to share via calculator. The files found in internal storage -> asus_log are not the correct files (they are only 1.2kb)

I received the link, thank you! I'm sending the info to the dev team 🙂
