You can try to connect the gamepad (in controller mode with the middle piece holding the controllers together) via a USB cable directly to the phone, don't use the bumper. See if the update message will come out. If it is successful, do be careful moving forward; if you receive non-stop update messages, i suggest you start using the gamepad in Bluetooth mode instead
