Unable to install windows 11 on ROG MAXIMUS Z890 APEX

Star I

Hi,

I have ROG MAXIMUS Z890 APEX motherboard. I installed 2 Samsung Pro SSD to DIMM 2 slot.

I see both m2 nvm devices under vme devices section in BIOS.

But, when I boot from Windows 11 installation USB, it does not able to find devices.

I have downloaded a lot of drivers from multiple places. As well as from motherboard official page.

I have upgraded bios to the latest version.

But nothing helps. The installer says "error installing driver" etc.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello @mdg12v

Thank you for reaching out to us. We apologize for the delayed response due to a public holiday in our region and any inconvenience this may have caused.
Regarding the situation you described, we recommend referring to the steps outlined in [Windows 11/10] Troubleshooting - Cannot find drives when installing Windows 11/10 to troubleshoot the issue.
If you encounter any configuration difficulties or have further concerns during the process, please specify which step is causing the issue or provide screenshots or a video to help us better understand your situation.
Additionally, we recommend checking whether your current configuration is affected by PCIe bifurcation & M.2 setting in the PCIe x16 slot (from CPU)

If needed, please consider cross-testing the SSD from the DIMM.2 slot by installing it in an M.2 slot to further verify the system installation status.

Thank you.

There are several reasons to have such issue.
Check the following:

1. Assume your drive (M2 is seen in BIOS) - and good additional check is to see, if some Linux live media (UBUNTU or Mint) can see M2 drive on install check process (emulation)

if so, then windows or does not have driver - think are you in RAID mode M2 or not. If RAID mode, provide RAID driver for windows.
IF windows USB installation media still is "unable to find drive" then it may be on of the nastiest problem of windows installation medias inability to work with different USB port versions/modes.
IE as weird it is, on "some"  (and here accounts many different laptops -desktop motherboard from many different vendors) WINDOWS installation media can not work on some USB3 sticks/porst combinations.

What i mean - try USB 3 stick in different port first - if still no success, acquire USB 2 stick (8GB size minimum)
and create windows installation media on it.
Now boot from USB2 version and on most cases - you can see drives install windows now.
