Question related to PBO activated via EZ button on Hive

I have a ROG STRIX X670E-I motherboard with Ryzen 9 7900 (not X).
I am not a gamer and use my pc mainly for rendering and video coding.

I like the Hive, because I enjoy the 65W low power consumption of the 7900 (with fans basically silent) for 90% of the time, and then when I need an extra boost for a few minutes during heavy workload, I just press the button on the Hive and go in PBO mode (and then release the button when the task is completed).

My question is related to the PBO profile that gets activated by pressing that button.
I noticed that it's basically a -10 Curve Optimizer with no limits on PPT/TDC/EDC (obviously the 95C temp limit applies).
No matter how I customize PBO in BIOS (e.g. I would like to use All Cores -15 CO or Per Core optimization), still that predefined -10 CO is used when I press the button. Moreover, releasing the PBO button does not bring back my customized PBO parameters, but rather removes PBO.

I have tried both the ASUS PBO and the AMD PBO, but the effect is the same: pressing the button on the Hive activates a standard -10 CO, no matter what I defined in the BIOS, and releasing the button removes PBO completely.

Is this behavior normal?

Is there a way I can customize the PBO parameters that are activated by the EZ PBO button on the Hive?

Hello @degio

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Based on the description of the EZ Mode PBO button guidance, you can further customize settings by configuring Precision Boost Overdrive to [Advanced] in the BIOS.
Could you confirm if you followed the steps above but still could not save the customized settings?
Additionally, has the BIOS been updated to the latest version, 3057, released on November 5, 2024, and has the issue persisted after clearing CMOS?
If so, could you share a complete video recording of the issue? For example, start the recording by showing the connection method for the ROG STRIX HIVE, navigate to the BIOS main page to confirm the version and related hardware information, and then proceed to demonstrate the steps leading to the issue.

Thank you.

Hello and thank you very much for your reply!

I can confirm I followed the steps to customize PBO and I have the BIOS updated to the latest version (3057), however I did not try clearing CMOS (and I am reluctant to do so).

I have anyway recorded a short video to better explain what I noticed.

In the video I customized PBO with a simple CO -15, but the same happens with more complex customizations: the EZ PBO button has a tendency to setup an arbitrary CO All Cores -10 profile with no PPT/TDC/EDC limits (they are all set to 1000).

I can restore my PBO customizations by simply rebooting, so this is not a major issue, but still it's odd.

Many thanks for you support.

Updated BIOS to v3067 and there is no change: same strange behavior, as in the video already posted.

Hello @degio

Thank you for sharing the video and explanation. To further address and identify this issue, could you kindly confirm the following?
- if this issue occurred after the PC was first built or after using it for some time and occurred following any recent changes, such as a BIOS update or component replacement?
- the brand, model and installation slots or ports of the GPU, RAM (part number well), SSD/HDD, and PSU

- are there any extensions or adapters used to connect any devices, such as GPU or SSD?

- the OS version and OS build

- the circumstances and frequency of the problem

Thank you.
