Question related to PBO activated via EZ button on Hive

I have a ROG STRIX X670E-I motherboard with Ryzen 9 7900 (not X).
I am not a gamer and use my pc mainly for rendering and video coding.

I like the Hive, because I enjoy the 65W low power consumption of the 7900 (with fans basically silent) for 90% of the time, and then when I need an extra boost for a few minutes during heavy workload, I just press the button on the Hive and go in PBO mode (and then release the button when the task is completed).

My question is related to the PBO profile that gets activated by pressing that button.
I noticed that it's basically a -10 Curve Optimizer with no limits on PPT/TDC/EDC (obviously the 95C temp limit applies).
No matter how I customize PBO in BIOS (e.g. I would like to use All Cores -15 CO or Per Core optimization), still that predefined -10 CO is used when I press the button. Moreover, releasing the PBO button does not bring back my customized PBO parameters, but rather removes PBO.

I have tried both the ASUS PBO and the AMD PBO, but the effect is the same: pressing the button on the Hive activates a standard -10 CO, no matter what I defined in the BIOS, and releasing the button removes PBO completely.

Is this behavior normal?

Is there a way I can customize the PBO parameters that are activated by the EZ PBO button on the Hive?

Thanks for your reply.
I am happy to answer all your questions, but first I would like to get from you more info about the intended behavior of the EZ PBO button on the Hive. Without such info, I do not even know if there is a problem or not.

My main question is: what exactly (at technical level) should the EZ PBO button do?

My assumption is that the button essentially changes "on the fly" the "PBO Limits" BIOS setting. In particular:
- Button released (light off): PBO Limits set to Auto (all other PBO settings also set to Auto), i.e. AMD CPU default PPT/EDC/TDC limits apply
- Button pressed (light on): PBO Limits set to Motherboard (all other PBO settings set as defined last time the PBO Limits field was set to Motherboard or Manual)

I may be wrong, so please clarify if my assumption is correct.
First I would like to know if Asus PBO or AMD PBO is changed by the button. The fact that settings are duplicated in two different BIOS areas may contribute to the strange behavior.

Moreover, I would like to know what should be the intended behavior of the EZ PBO Button when the system is booted already in PBO manual mode: should the button do nothing? Or should allow deactivation of PBO when released?

I have noticed that, even after changing profile, all PBO parameters are preserved in the BIOS. In other words, when the "PBO Limits" field is changed from Auto to Motherboard/Manual, immediately the BIOS activates all other settings, which are prepopulated with the values used last time.
This is interesting, because it means such values are stored somewhere. If I look in the profile file generated by the BIOS (CTRL-F2, i.e. TXT version) when PBO is set to Auto, all other PBO settings are also "Auto", which means that the BIOS memory used to save those values is not copied in the profile file. Such memory fields are recovered only when PBO Limits is set to Motherboard or Manual.

It seems to me that, while changing the PBO Limits field in BIOS recovers those values correctly, changing the PBO Limits field on the fly with the EZ PBO Button recovers different values, maybe set somewhere else.

I am just trying to debug the situation with the limited info available.

And now I'll answer to your questions.
1) I do not know. After first build, I started playing with Ryzen Master, changing Curve Optimizer parameters (both All Cores and Per Core) and suddenly noticed the issue. By the way, we should not exclude that the issue is related to Ryzen Master software, incorrectly reporting the CPU settings.

2) My detailed build:
Case: Fractal Design Terra
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900
CPU Cooler: Deepcool AN600
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X670E-I Gaming WIFI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 (CMK5X16G1B60Z40A2)
Video Card: Zotac GAMING Twin Edge GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
PSU: CORSAIR SF750

3) Windows 11 Pro 24H2 - Build 26100.2161

Hello @degio

Thank you for your response and update. I have forwarded the details of your situation to our backend technical team for review.
We will verify the expected behavior and assess whether this scenario can be validated before providing a further update to you.
Due to the year-end holiday season, some additional time may be required for the review process. We appreciate your patience and understanding in advance.

Thank you.

Hello @degio

We apologize for the wait and any inconvenience this may have caused.
After verification by the relevant team based on the information you provided, we can confirm that the observed behavior is working as expected.

For further clarification, please refer to the description on page 2-24 of the user manual:

Additionally, we would like to highlight three key points:

1) If Ryzen Master is installed, the software settings will take precedence, and the EZ Mode PBO settings will not apply.
2) The PBO function is configured via "Ai Tweaker" > Precision Boost Overdrive in the BIOS, not through the Advanced path.

3) When PBO is set to [Auto], pressing the EZ PBO button will immediately apply a Curve Optimizer value of -10. However, if PBO is set to a value other than [Auto], the configured settings will be applied at the moment the BIOS changes are saved. As a result, pressing the EZ PBO button will have no effect in this case.

Thank you.

Thanks very much.

Mystery solved.
