Disk warnings in event log and random system crashes on X670E-PLUS with NVME RAID enabled

Star I

Hello,

My issue is that NVME RAID does not work without crashing the system randomly on my TUF Gaming X670E-PLUS motherboard.

I am not sure if this is a hardware or a driver problem.

If NVME RAID is enabled in the BIOS, I get a lot of EventID=153 disk warnings in the Windows System Event Log  for all drives ("The IO operation at logical block address x for Disk y was retried"), and random blue screen of death system crashes, even without creating a RAID array. If I create a RAID1 mirror, it randomly gets critical after a simple shutdown/bootup cycle or a system crash and have to be rebuilt. There are no SMART errors.

If NVME RAID is disabled in the BIOS, the system works for weeks without any problem. I have done RAM testing and CPU load testing, everything is OK. If I turn NVME RAID back on, the disk warnings and BSOD crashes appear again.

I have searched the internet for this and tried the suggested solutions. Reinstalling Windows, resetting CMOS, turning off "Dynamic Tick" in Windows and keeping RAIDXpert2 running in the background did not help.

What should i do to get NVME RAID to work without crashing?

System info:

* RAID driver version: I tried 9.3.2.00158 and 9.3.2.00255
* Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS with BIOS version 1809
* CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
* RAM: 64 GB (2x 32 GB 6000 MT/s Kingston Fury, KF560C36BBEK2-64)
* GPU: GeForce GTX 1060
* OS: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
* NVME drives: 3x Samsung SSD 990 PRO 1TB
* I also have some HDDs, but it does not affect the problem whether they are plugged in or not.

Hello, @megasys

May I ask if the situation you described happened after any changes were made? For example, updating the BIOS or connecting an external device
Could you share the reasoning behind not updating the BIOS to the latest version, 2214?
We recommend considering a BIOS update and clearing CMOS before attempting to configure RAID again.
Would you like to set up RAID 0 or RAID 1? If needed, you can try cross-testing with other SSDs.
For guidance on creating RAID, please refer to the section "AMD Motherboard Create RAID" in [Motherboard] Intel 500 series and before and AMD board of how to create RAID in BIOS Setup.

Thank you.

Hello @Jiaszzz_ASUS ,

Thank you for your reply. I bought and started using the motherboard in November 2023, and the problem first appeared right after I installed Windows 11 with RAID enabled (using driver version 9.3.2.00158). Then I updated the BIOS to version 1809 (latest version at that time), clearing the CMOS and reinstalling Windows multiple times, but it did not help. Then I decided to use the machine without RAID until a new driver version is released, but it didn't work with the new driver either (9.3.2.00255).

Yesterday I updated the BIOS to 2214, cleared the CMOS, and also updated the firmware of the SSDs. I created a RAID1 array, and I haven't experienced any problems for over a day. No disk warnings, no crashes, it seems to be OK.

Thank you for your help!
