[Troubleshooting] Router restarts automatically on a regular or irregular basis

When you notice that your router restarts automatically on a regular or irregular basis, you can refer to the troubleshooting steps below.

 

Introduction

1. Check  “Reboot Scheduler

2. Check “Auto Firmware Upgrade

3. Update firmware

4. Standard Reset

5. Hard Factory Reset

6. Check power supply

 

 

 

1. Please check if you enable “Reboot Scheduler”: this function is used to automatically restart router at a specific time.

    Connect your mobile phone to ASUS wireless router via Wi-Fi connection first and enter ASUS Router APP > Settings > System settings > Schedule Reboot > [Enable Reboot Schedule].     
    Please disable this function and then click [Apply] to save settings. Please refer to [Wireless Router]How to set up an ASUS router to automatically restart at specific times

    

 

2. Please check if you enable “Auto Firmware Upgrade”: router will restart automatically after upgrading firmware.

    Connect your computer or mobile phone to ASUS router via wired or Wi-Fi connection and enter your router LAN IP or router URL http://www.asusrouter.com to the WEB GUI.

    Key in your router's username and password and then click [Sign In]. Next, please go to [Administration] > [Firmware Upgrade], select [OFF] to save settings.

3. Update firmware: Update your firmware regularly to get the latest updates for your router.

4. Please perform Standard Reset on router: please find the RESET button, press it for 5-10 seconds, and power LED will start flashing to finish reset.

5. Please perform Hard Factory Reset: if standard reset does not solve the issue, please use this method to hard factory reset router.

6. It could be power supply issues: when power supply is unstable, it may cause the router to automatically restart.

    Note: Please ensure your own safety before performing any power checks or operations.

    6-1 Check power outlet: please try different power outlets or power extension cords.

    6-2 Check router's adapter: please check if the plug of adapter/power supply is loosened, and please press the plug tightly or replug adapter/power supply.

    6-3 Check power cable: please check if power cable of adapter/supply is physically damaged, broken, and frayed. If there is any damage, it may result in an unstable power supply.

 

 

 

 

If none of the methods mentioned above are applicable, it is possible that there is a problem with router or router's adapter/power supply. We suggest contact ASUS Customer Service Center for technical support.
