[NUC] NUC Freezes During Boot

Resolution

Try the following steps:

  • Confirm latest BIOS updates are installed (Search by the system model name on ASUS Download Center)
  • Disconnect other devices connected to NUC aside from the mouse, keyboard, and monitor during boot in BIOS to see if this helps.
  • Clear system power signals
    1. Remove the power cord.
    2. Press the power button for 3-5 seconds.
    3. Plug the power cord back into the NUC.
    4. Press the power button to start your NUC and try to enter BIOS.
  • Remove the CMOS battery and Replace it with a new one.

 

If none of the above resolved the issue, the BIOS may have to be updated using other methods (if it is not already the lates

  • Systems with an Aptio V BIOS (NUC's shipped after 2019 (9th Gen and later) can attempt the F7 method to update the BIOS during boot
    1. Download and save the Recovery BIOS (.CAP) file to a USB device. Example:

  1. Plug the USB device into a USB port of the target computer.
  2. Start the NUC. During boot, when the F7 prompt is displayed, press F7 to enter the BIOS Flash Update tool.
  3. Select the USB device and press Enter.

  1. Select the .CAP file and press Enter.

  1. Confirm you want to update the BIOS by pressing Enter.
  2. Wait 2-5 minutes for the update to complete.

Wait 2 to 5 minutes

  1. When the BIOS update is complete, the computer will boot back into Windows.
