[NUC] How to Check if a Graphics Card is Compatible with an Processor

Resolution

To get the best performance results from the system, confirming that the processor and graphics card support the same PCIe version is key.   PCIe slots have data transfer speeds that should be considered in order to avoid bottleneck issues (see note).

It is possible to determine whether a processor supports a graphics card by looking at their supported PCI Express Revisions and matching them if they have the same version.

  1. Go to Asus.com find the NUC Products.
  2. Scroll down to the Expansion Options Section and note the PCIE Express Revision. You'll notice that it's 5.0 and 4.0. This pertains to the supported data transfer rate; the higher the version, the faster the transfer rate can be.
  3. Now, you can go to your desired graphics card support page and check the GPU Specification.
  4. Let's use the Arc™ A770 Graphics as an example. Some call it PCI Express Configuration, while others call it PCI Express Generation. When it matches the PCI express revisions of the Intel Processor, it means it's fully compatible.
NoteBottleneck issue occurs when your graphics card supports higher PCI Express revisions but your processor only supports lower revisions, the data transfer rate of the graphics card is compressed, similar to a funnel.
