[Motherboard]Troubleshooting-How to fix Motherboard WI-FI connect problem

It is necessary to confirm whether the problem is  the wireless controller, the network equipment (Switch / route  etc.) or the ISP

This troubleshooting is for the abnormal wireless network of the motherboard (for example, the Wi Fi icon disappears, Wi Fi is unable to connect, Wi Fi has no signal and other common symptoms)

Suppose you have a motherboard with WI-FI and a smart phone in your home, both connect with Wi Fi

If the motherboard wi-fi and smart phones both are unable to connect to the Internet. It is usually caused by network devices or ISP. It is recommended to try to restart the network devices, or contact the ISP for service

The motherboard cannot connect to the Internet, but the smart phone can  → Please follow below troubleshooting

A:Check whether the motherboard supports wireless functionality    
Go to the ASUS official website to confirm whether your motherboard supports wireless function.    
1)Click icon,enter the model name of your motherboard    
(As an example:TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WI-FI)

2). Click[Tech Specs], confirm whether [Wireless Data Network] is supported, as shown below:

1. Make sure the wireless function is activated    
If you click the network connection icon, the Wi Fi and action hotspot icons are not displayed,    
please confirm whether the Wi Fi option in the device manager or in the BIOS is turned off, refer to Q2 & A2

2. Confirm and connect to WI-FI    
a. Click the [Network and Internet] icon in the taskbar 1, and confirm whether the WLAN setting is [On] 2, select the wireless name to be connected 3    
For example, choose the name of the wireless network as follows: ASUS    
Note: The Wi-Fi icon displays in blue to indicate that it is on.     

b. Click to connect, as shown in Figure 4 below

c. Enter the network security key, as shown in Figure 5 below. After the input is completed, click Next, as shown in Figure 6 below:

d. After the connection is successful, "Connected, safe" will be displayed, as shown in Figure 7 below:

3. Execute the Windows Network Troubleshooter    
In the [Start] menu, click [Settings].    

Click [System]-[Troubleshooting]-[Other Troubleshooters].

Find Network and Internet and click [Run].

4. Restore BIOS settings    
Try to reset BIOS to default settings, here you can learn more about FAQ:How to restore BIOS settings.

5. Update Wireless driver    
Update the Wireless and Bluetooth drivers through Device Manager:    
If the versions are too different between the Wireless and Bluetooth drivers, it may cause a software compatible issue. So, we recommend updating both drivers to the latest version.    
 

a. Right-click on [Start] 1 and click [Device Manager] 2. 

b. Click the arrow 3 next to the [Network adapters] device type. Right-click [MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7921 Wireless LAN Card]4 and click [Uninstall Device]5.

Note: The name of the wireless network device may be different on different motherboard models.

 

c. Check [Attempt to remove the driver for this device] 6 and click [Uninstall] 7.

d. Click the arrow 8 next to the [Bluetooth] device type. Right-click [MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter] 9 and click [Uninstall Device]10.    
Note: The name of the Bluetooth device may be different on motherboards with different models.     

e. Check [Attempt to remove the driver for this device]11 and click [Uninstall]12.

 

f. After uninstalling the network adapters and Bluetooth in Device Manager, click [Action] 13 and then select [Scan for hardware changes] 14.    
The computer will reinstall the wireless network and Bluetooth drivers and show up again in the Network Adapters and Bluetooth Device categories.     

g. If the wireless network and Bluetooth driver cannot be automatically updated through the device manager, please go to the ASUS official website to download the driver and install it. Please refer to FAQ:[Motherboard] How to install motherboard drivers and utilities    
Note: Please find the manufacturer driver corresponding to your motherboard's wireless network card and Bluetooth device. This example manufacturer is [Intel].

6. Restore network settings to default values    
a. Click [Start]1 and click [Settings]2    

b. Click [Network & Internet] 3, [Advanced Network Settings] 4, and click [Network Reset] 5

c. Click [Reset Now]6 and select [Yes]7. After the network reset is complete, your computer will restart

If the issue persists, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

7. An exclamation mark appears on the wireless network interface card in the device manager    
If you find a yellow exclamation mark appears on the wireless network interface card in the device administrator, as shown in the following figure:

Please try the following steps to fix    
a. Turn off the computer power, unplug the power cord, and perform CMOS reset steps, refer to FAQ: How to clear CMOS    
b. After reconnecting the power supply and turning on the computer, please confirm whether the wireless network interface card in the device manager is back to normal.

8. Update BIOS    
If you still have problems with the wireless network connection after troubleshooting the above steps, please update the motherboard BIOS to the latest version. Refer to FAQ: [Motherboard] How to update BIOS of the motherboard ?(Include different generation CPU)

If you have completed the above troubleshooting steps but the problem is still not resolved, it may be caused by the network service provider or network equipment (including modems, network cables, and wireless sharers). 2. Confirm and connect to WI-FI

a. Click the network icon and select the root, for example, ASUS_Router

b. Click [Connect] item

c. Enter the network security key and click [Next]

d. It show as below[Connected, secured]

3. Execute the Windows Network Troubleshooter    
Click [Start]-[Settings], then click [Update & Security]

6. Load default of the network setting

a. Click Windows start icon and then click [Settings]

b. Click [Network & Internet] and then click [Network reset]

c. Click [Reset now] and Confirm [Yes]

A1:

a. please confirm whether connect Wi-Fi Antenna, as below picture

b. If the signal is still weak, please check the root WI-FI signal. Refer to FAQ: How to improve reception of wireless signals(reduce wireless interference)

 

Q2: How to check whether WI-FI adapter is disable or not in Device Manger?

A2:

Click Windows 10 Start icon and select [Device Manager]

e. set [Wi-Fi Controller] to [Enabled]

f. Press<F10>key and then click<OK>
