My phone keeps restarting again and again

edited October 2020 in ZenFone 6
Please tell us some basic information before asking for help:
  1. Model Name: Asus 6z (zenfone 6)
  2. Firmware Version: WW-16.1220.1906.167
  3. Rooted or not: No
  4. Frequency of Occurrence: Continuously
  5. APP Name & APP Version (If your issue relates to the app):
In addition to information above, please also provide as much details as you can, e.g., using scenario, what troubleshooting you've already done, screenshot, etc.
========================================
I recently bought Asus 6z on 25th July. I installed the latest update and after usage of couple of days the phone kept rebooting again and again. Before rebooting started, the sim signals kept turning off and on again. I did a factory reset as well but the problem remained.
Please provide a solution to this as many others here are also facing the problem. It cannot be a hard ware issue as the problem started AFTER the latest update (after reading all related threads here).

  • Some users update the firmware through FOTA, causing the update to be incorrect and cause frequent reboots. Try the following method to manually update the firmware to see if there is any improvement.

    manual uppdate :
( for WW/EU/IN/JP only*, exclude RU)
do not unzip folder because it's signed

2 copy UL-ASUS_I01WD-ASUS-16.1220.1906.174-1.1.1-user.zip to SD card

    3 power off your device

4 press vol+ and power keys

5 press vol - key to choose Recovery mode

    6 press power key

7 press vol- key to choose apply uppdate from SD

8 press power key and wait

  • Go to service centre they will replace the motherboard

Are you kidding us? Because in reality such a scenario is impossible:
Once the OTA update is downloaded, it is usually checked for integrity using a checksum. This is important so that we don’t waste the user’s time rebooting the phone and not being able to install the update (there are additional integrity checks later in the process).

Someone sent the service center to get the answer is that the OTA failed to restart, but you still rely on the following reply.

  • This restarting problem how can I fix,if do downgrade system update to 156,Will it fixed???

  • [email protected] can I apply ur proccedure or system downgrade for fixed restarting problem ??

  • We recommend contacting your local repair center if your phone is restarting our auto-rebooting. This is most likely a hardware issue.

  • Been facing this issue since july... it's been 2 and half month since i have been waiting for my phone to get repaired. Every 14 days i go to the service center, give my phone... they reset the software and give it back... and they take 14 days to do it...

I have completely lost faith in the Asus service center's in India and i consider this phone a loss... I have already sent all the screenshots from every mail i have written weekly to asus to all the automated replies i get which are total bullshit to tech websites and tech journalists. I want this thing to get media coverage. I have also filed a complaint in the consumer court and I will see to this the company is banned from India. I am gonna try my best.

  • Take a legal action agaist them

  • If your problem is due to software factors, re-brushing the system will be useful. However, if your problem is a hardware factor, please go to the service center.

  • I was so happy with my Asus 6Z, until the constant reboots started after the software update! Pathetic! Even made a short quick video on it.

@Anders_ASUS Now this nightmare has started for me as well. Out of the blue my phone's screen flickered and went into a bootloop. It's been restarting continuously since yesterday.

At times it boots on its own but when I try to use it, the screen flickers and phone goes into a bootloop again. I'm worried more about my data. I'm not able to take a backup either. The phone is pretty much unusable at this point. What am I supposed to do now?

PS: Phone is not rooted and my firmware version is WW-16.1220.1908.191.

  • @Anders_ASUS I did a hard reset and the issue is still very much there. I guess the hardware fault has finally caught up to me. Don't know how and why it appeared out of nowhere.

  • I am the of the lucky ones who did not face any such issue. But I am going to steer clear of Asus in my next purchase for sure.

  • Lucky you. You have no idea how frustrating it is. I'm still hoping that the problem would fix on its own but I seriously doubt it. I've literally tried everything but the issue is not getting resolved. Unfortunately I don't have any backup phone either. And seeing pathetic response of service centres is worrying me even futher. I have no idea how I'm gonna manage for weeks or even month without a phone.

It's such a painful feeling to realise that your hard earned money went to waste. Seems like meanwhile I will have to shell out more money to buy a cheap phone. What a this disaster this buy has been.

  • am also facing the same issue my phone is getting restarted again and again it's getting heated but it's getting restarted again and again I visited the service centre he just updated the software but it didn't worked and still the issue is still

  • @Anders_ASUS Submitted my phone in the Asus Service Centre today and explained them the whole ordeal. They acknowledged the motherboard issue in this phone. Hopefully they won't return me the phone with just a software update. I have also told them about the loose camera module. Hoping that issue will be resolved as well.

  • Greetings

I am having the exact same issues with my Zenfone 6. I already sent it to RMA but I did not know about the Hardware problem at that time and they returned the phone to me saying that it works fine. They applied a firmware Update and it did not crash while they had it so in some way I can understand why they said its working. (I checked the eventlog. No strange behaiviour while they had it. 5 Crashes in a row after I switched it on)

Unfortunatly its not working as it went back to crashing mere minutes after getting it back. I am still in contact with the support and they are supposed to call me today. I suspect the hardware issue is the reason but I would be happy if I had some proof. I pulled some error logs of the phone when it was still working and many modem errors seem to be the cause for the crashes and the reason that I cannot get a signal from my mobile carrier. My Wifi won't work anymore aswell.

Could someone upload a error log of his bootlooping/crashing phone so that I can compare the errors to see if its the same thing. Knowing the issue might help me in convincing support to finally help me with this.

I hope someone can help me.

I wish you all a great day

  • @jonas.linter it's quite simple to find out if this is hard or soft ware related.

Since your device seem to restart quite frequently, factory reset it and If it doesn't restart, then it was software related. If it restarts, then it's hardware

  • Well to add to this, I came through this forum after I started facing constant restarts issue, then got the phone serviced from Asus service center on 26-AUG-2019 and Holla! They replaced the mother board and do you know what I started facing that issue again and I have given the phone again on 26-SEP-2019. So, the bitter truth is, there is seriously no resolution for this problem. This time as soon the mechanic temporarily fixes the problem, I going to sell it in OLX India. If anybody interested, can buy for very cheap price. Because the phone worth only so much... And guys, hey don't get tempted to ROG phone 2. That may also have similar problem. RIP all ASUS buyers!!!!!!!!
