Asus Rog Phone 3 - Strix System Update issue.

Please tell us some basic information before asking for help:
- Model Name: Asus rog Phone 3 - Strix Tencent Edition
- Rooted or not: Not sure (Global Rom)
Hello, I have some questions about my Phone.
I have recently got from Ebay the Asus Rog 3 Phone - Strix edition Tencent Version. I choice it because it was cheaper, I was doing some digging and found that the issue might be the companies for the communication. I am from Israel so this issue was irrelevant, and this is why I choose this phone.
Anyway, the system version number is 17.0823.2007.32, when I try to update it says it is up to date, however I see other versions out there so :
1) how can I update my system ?
2) sorry to ask, is the tencent version a real ASUS phone ? because on their website I see there is republic of gamers and none tecent, so got confused.
Will add more info / pictures if needed, thanks.

On their site there are the official update files for .122,you can find out more there
Also since you got the phone from eBay there is a high chance it's flashed and not "original" that would be the reason you can't update the phone
And yes the tencent version is original but only in china,if it says tencent and is on a Global rom, then it's flashed and that means you got scammed in a way
I see, so got a bit "ducked", however I also saw Americans sellers who sell the Tencent version with global rom.
So is there anything I can do ? or I am ducked and have to stay with a phone that can't be updated?
You'll have to update it manually, there are tutorials on YouTube but I suggest you wait for an official answer from one of the moderators
Very well, thanks!
I feel quite stupid now, however it does saves a lot of money! shipping global was way expensive and the product is expensive, however the device works perfect!
I'm glad to hear that, enjoy this beast of a phone then!
Be aware that tencent phones with global rom have a tendency to cause issues. Tons of users here got all kinds of problems with these types of phones, some being insane battery drain, bad performance, speaker issues, microphone issues, L3 widevine problems, touch issues and so on.
Sadly ASUS only lets you unlock the bootloader once, meaning you cannot root and fix ur phone either as it has been unlocked then relocked again, also you have no warranty either on tencent phones to begin with.
Perfect, so I am even more fucked up, well already got the phone and probably can't return it (since it was opened and used), however I didn't find any issues yet so...shame.
I don't understand Asus to be honest, they could have stop this from happening or at-least offer a solution.
Thank you!
Ok guys, I tried to do it manually and it worked! ^_^
Thank you both for your answers, everything seems to work fine now.
They do warn people about those phones on stickies and they did prevent it to some degrees but people found workarounds. If anyone is to blame it's the chinese market that try to oversell these tencent phones as "global versions".
Weird, never saw a warning about it.
Well facts are I an stuck with this phone :/

@TX11559 As others have noted, you will not be able to receive new firmware updates via FOTA since you have an unsupported configuration. Our recommendation is to contact your reseller about a refund if possible.
I'll paste this from the thread linked to you by @Danishblunt above:
We would like to make clear that ASUS does not officially sell any Tencent-branded ROG Phone II with so called "International ROM" or "Global firmware".
We cannot guarantee the functionality of this combination , if you are facing any type of issues - please turn to your reseller where you bought this device - as this is is not a combination we are selling.
Well sadly this phone cannot be refunded as I already opened the box and used it (which make sense in a way).
However, is it true that the tencent in general is offical asus phone? asus is chinese in the end.
@TX11559 ASUS is a Taiwanese company. As for the Tencent-branded models, they have Chinese ROM and are intended for the Chinese market.
I understand that, but its still an ASUS phone yes? Like, ASUS PHONE for the Chinese market ?
Well next time will have to do a bigger wide search, it did save me a lot of money, I won't lie as they are way cheaper but at the cost of....
Feels quite disappointed :(
Yes, it's the ROG Phone 3 version sold for the Chinese market.
But you can still manually update through the full firmware available on Asus's site right?
It is an ASUS product however it is only for the chinese market, so installing a global rom onto it is installing software that isnt made for it. This causes especially issues with certifications and such.
Very well thank you.
I did install a manually update and it workes fine so far.
Of course, I understand, if I got issues it is only to send it back to china for warranty.
Well thank you guys, but the fact it is a phone I am going to be stuck with, so will try to enjoy it as much as I can.
