What has been your experience with the ROG 2?

I want to start back to when I first heard about ASUS doing gaming phones and why I got one. But to hear your thoughts too, because I've seen alot of posts gone from excitement and enjoyability to out right hate or disgust.

I was lucky to visit Japan back in August 2019 and during my travels I came across a gentleman who had the ROG 1 phone, it took my attention from the lighting back and made me wonder what the spec and everything was. My old phone being a sony xperia xz premiun I decided to look into the ASUS brand. That's when I saw the ROG 2, its big huge spec and battery and its slightly useless but nice fan I decided this phone would be a good phone to last me years, if not a good 8 years if I was lucky. So... I waited for release in the UK which was roughly two months later and I got one from ASUS UK store. It arrived next day and I was super happy with the upgrade.

I then have been on here now for the past 6 months. Mostly to keep an eye on updates and bits for game genie. Sometimes looking at issues to see what was going on. That's when I started to see issues with motherboards, battery issues and red tint, black crush. After which my battery began to feel like a 3000Mah rather than a near 6000 (5800 rated) battery, I actually charge my sony phone the same amount as my ROG phone and do the exact same stuff, so it really ticked me off as it feels the same.

We then had the delay in android 10 and having months without a secruity patch or update, then seeing how ROG 1 had to wait ages for android 9 and then after which told the phones basically done with, I felt abit put off.

I then saw a jerry rig video, were he breaks down the phone and seeing how the vent/ cooling was basically a crap con and the phone mostly cooling out of the screen, made me feel more buyers remorse. The ROG 3 actually has a heatsink with a useful vent btw.

Overral I like the idea, and I think the specs are nice but there is either a serious need to fund software dev more and boost the team or ROG 3 was rushed out to replace the issues we are getting in ROG 2. I honestly dont know what the future is for this phone but I just hope that if and when we get android 11 that the devs can then focus on features, fixes and overall improvements. Heck that bypass charging that the ROG 3 just got is right up my street and I would love that so much. especially how im such a battery care geek.

To sum up, I regret buying the ROG 2, I had tried to see if Asus do a replacement service for the ROG 3 and pay the dif but they sadly don't. Will I buy again from ASUS? Mobile wise, no. PC stuff, most likely.

I don't personally blame the devs, heck they have had a virus shutting down normal processes but I just wish the company listened and at least cared for past phones which aint even a year old.

Curious to hear other peoples thoughts and experiences.

  • I regret buying the ROG 2 too.

  • How come? Thoughts, trying to see what people are like on the ROG 2.

  • They suck on software updates and optimization on os side.

  • This phone could be good if it had good software . I would still this recommend phone to someone who need an interruption free display , etc and dosent care about software.

    Would I buy it ? : NO

Personally I not had problems with this phone as my daily driver. I live in Europe, but got the phone from Asia. Like alot of you, if my phone breaks and it is under warranty, I would probably need to take my phone back to the orginating country who sold the device to me.

The hardware specification is definately what I am looking for and the reason why I got the phone (512GB Disk Space/12 GB RAM) and the battery life is definately helpful for me to do light gaming on the move and yet do not have to worry about running out of battery by the time I get home. I hate nowadays that battery is integrated with the phone, but there is nothing I can do as that is the trend. If only a manufacturer somehow make the batteries detachable but yet make it comfortable to use, I would like to try it out. The weight is definately heavier than alot of the phones that I had, but I can adjust to that no problem.

On top of that, like OP has said was the lights and fan did catch some of the attention, but was not a deal breaker to me. But it had me interested.

The regular updates and patches was a concern as it was around 6 to 7 months when I checked before buying the phone. The hardware won me over because if I don't go onto dodgy sites to get your apps, you will be absolutely fine.

I would like to see the phone essential apps like Clock, Phone, Camera and Contacts to be the same app created from ASUS to be uniformed and they are indeed. But the Messages app is from Google and the blue does stand out abit from the ASUS apps. It doesn't look professional at all 😅

It is my first phone with ASUS. I have been with Samsung Galaxy Series from 2 to 10 (rooted all of them) and I have 20 at the moment too which is still under warranty. Do I want to stay with ASUS? I would definately give things a try if new things do come out in terms of hardware specification. A new model with just changing in software doesn't really work for me. I like to touch and feel what I have brought and software can be changed by anyone.

Terrible. Never buying any phones from Asus ever again. And I'd also advise my friends and relatives to stay away from Asus smartphones.

  • Why ,I suggest you stay away from all expensive phones and buy only cheap phones coz that kind of mentality you have got....stop complaining..this is good phone

I only go for high end gadgets bro, and from the way you've written your response, it's not very hard to tell just how bright you are. Telling a consumer to "stop complaining" is probably not a great idea.

First there was only this ronald guy and now you. Where do you people even come from? JFL

  • Not that great, after sales service sucks here in India and most of the time they don't even know if the service centers are active or not.

I've had my device repaired two times, the second time it took two whole months to get it repaired and now those two months of warranty is gone down the drain, also can't forget the mental stress the process put me through. It's hard to recommend ASUS devices to anyone who's looking for a good after sales service, and SW is fine & useful but they slow down updates and don't give you anything useful after a year, so basically you're stuck with what you get at launch + some device related fixes and that's all.

Been reading comments, interesting and sad really.

New update was pushed today for us and to be honest, its shite. Barely any fixes or features added, not sure if they're binding their time for us to get android 11 then work on that or if our phone really has been left as is.

  • Am giving these marks.... Out of 5 Stars

Display- 4 ( coz there is a red tint issue)

Battery- 4 ( Not like 6k mah feel like 4.5k mah)

Performance- 5 ( Excellent performance, normal and heavy use. High graphics games are smooth and never experienced any lag or fps drop at Higher settings) ( also psp and dolphin emulator am getting 30fps and it's really impressive) no heat no lag when using. Also graphics quality is amazing, great physics, fast rendering, and everything is perfect.

Touch and sensitivity- 5. ( It's fast and accurate)

Camera - 3.5 ( Not as expected but really good one camera)

Audio - 4. ( DtsX and audio quality is amazing. Deep bass ,crystal clear , louder and one of the best audio set-up. When gaming I feel everything realistic and amazing)

Network - 5 (mind-blowing...... I had max pro m1 . My sim I was using in it . I had low network signal and quality..... But Rog 2 Im having full siganal and quality.)

Last and final..... My bad experience is - I'm giving 1 star for this - >>>> Very disappointed service after sale . Updates are too late or asus don't care about it..... .,, Less game support for eg , pubg mobile already rolled out 90fps for every smartphones which supports 90hz or above screen. And every other brands already got this feature. But Rog phone haven't yet.... Complained everywhere Facebook, insta, community etc..... But no reply from asus. And they didn't care about it....... No exclusive game features etc..... And asus won't care us as a valuable user.

No latest feature updates for users .... They just giving something to users they don't need.........

I like this phone but I hate asus....... They just wanna make money, don't think about what their customers need.

@Osmak does ur phone get switch off while charging ur answer may be no but so many user are facing this issue including me..we haven't given money for such issues to occur for which we have to transfer our phone data to laptop and take it to service center within 6-7 months of purchase

If u think this phone is not for illiterate like us then why don't u buy everyone's phone 🤔

  • Battery drain after this latest update is 3%/10 minutes

    How is battery 10???????????

  • Haven't had any issues it's been almost a year now since I've been using it and other than the issue of us not getting the software updates on time I absolutely have had no problems like the phone getting shutdown or any heating issues yes the battery does drain a bit faster than before but I guess android 10 did that to many other phones hopefully it'll get better I believe in Asus. Ps just updated my phone and the armoury crate is so much better.
