Hi,
I would like to share that my Zenfone 4 Max Pro X00ID ZC554KL can use Twin Apps for Whatsapp ( and other supported apps ) without any problem, including access the Contacts of my Zenfone.
I have read many other people posted difficulty in doing so from different regions of the ASUS forum, some of them are:

I am not able to reply any of these posts because they are more than 30 days old.
When setting up Twin Apps for the 1st time, you should get a prompt asking you to login to your Google account.
On my Zenfone 4, I have all my contacts saved in Google. I do not have any local contacts. I am not sure if this makes any difference.
