Phone calls not showing up on the screen

Whenever I get a phone call it is not showing up on the screen. Instead it is showing up on the notification bar alone and I always have to drag down the notification bar tap the call notification and then only I'm able to answer the call. Also, when ever I get an SMS I only get the notification but not the message tone. Please resolve these two issues
