We need this. Google has very bad plans for A16.

What kind of plans?

  1. The big one is "Advanced Protection" mode.  It's optional now but not in the future.  It allows Google to remotely monitor application and network data.  Any app not digitally signed by a Google-approved developer is forbidden.  All apps by a developer may be instantly removed at any time by Google.  Apps from independent app stores that use a more sophisticated security model, like F-Droid, are forbidden.
  2. Google is no longer using AOSP.  This was a primary source of innovation but Google says it's hard.  They were already blocking innovation by limiting what APIs apps in Play Store may use.  Now they're hard-killing it.  Google claims there will be a virtual device that developers can use in the future (again, only Google-approved uses).

There's probably more evil changes that Google hasn't announced yet.

All of this would normally be illegal but the current US government is completely corrupt and dysfunctional.  An unlocked bootloader is the only fix for certified Android phones.

Thank you for the explanation!

I knew of a few changes cosmetically, but very little about app and core changes. It's all about control with these big tech company's, and seems more aggressive in the US... Not surprised though.

Can't wait!!
