Google assistant stopped working when the screen is locked. It doesn't respond to "hey Google".
It also doesn't register any sound when enabled manually. In my case by long pressing the middle button on the nav bar.
It also doesn't work in driving mode as the noise of driving doesn't let it hear "hey Google" and pressing the button manually triggers the previous issue.
Uninstalling updates to the Google app fixes this but also removes driving mode.
