Is someone of you able to boot a recovery with the ultimate version?
I'm trying to boot TWRP but I always get the error
Sending 'boot.img' (98304 KB) OKAY [ 0.343s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Is there anything I can do about it?
Things I've tried:
* 3 different PCs
* 4 different USB cables
* all USB Ports
* different ADB/Fastboot versions
I searched all over the place but every solution so far fails - however I was not able to find an issue related to the Asus ROG Ultimate so maybe there is something special here?

I take it you have unlocked your bootloader using the APK provided by Asus?
Either way, you should ask XDA and there are Telegram groups for asking help.

Of course I've an unlocked bootloader, otherwise I wouldn't be able to boot into fastboot and moving the file in the first place would fail.
Already asked there but no one seems to have an answer.

You can still get into Fastboot without bootloader unlocked, but of course you are restricted. Error message should indicate that anyway, which yours didn't anyway.
On Telegram, just search for ROGPhone5 and you will see it 😄
The other thing I remember need doing is updating the drivers too in Device Manager.

Thank you I'll try that.
Didn't even know you can access fastboot.. Never tried that to be honest because the first thing I do is always to unlock the bootloader.
My last argument would then be "I said I'm rooted - root without unlocked bootloader shouldn't be possible" 😜
