RT-BE92U Persistent Thermal Zone Faults

RicoSuave
Star II

First post here so bear with me if I miss anything. Since purchase, my RT-BE92U has been plagued with the same issues others have posted here. Up until the new firmware version dropped, I was having constant problems with network stability. I am currently running the latest firmware version (3.0.0.6.102_37435) and a lot of the issues seem to have been resolved except for one. Before the firmware update, I was seeing intermittent thermal zone errors in the system log. Since applying the update, I am consistently getting the following errors that appear every 3 seconds exactly:

Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: read_bpcm_reg_direct_keyhole: Wait for completion failed, devAddr 0x3, offset 24, idx 2
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get RAIL 0 temperature, ret=256
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get temperature, ret=-1
Jan 4 18:29:52 kernel: thermal thermal_zone0: failed to read out thermal zone (-1)

On occasion, the errors coincide with a drastic decrease in wireless network performance. Under normal conditions, when connected to the 6GHz network, my wireless network download speed averages around 1100Mbps. This will drop to a nearly unusable 2-3Mbps. The 2.5GHz and 5GHz networks also see a decrease in speed to around the same 2-3Mbps. Wired clients seem unaffected. Once I perform a hard reset to the router, it seems to correct the speed issue for a while, but the thermal zone errors continue to persist. This seems to happen anywhere from once a week, to every day. Performing a hard reset isn't something I want to nor should have to keep doing to correct the issue every time it happens. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to stop this from happening. I am getting very close to returning this router and exchanging it for a different brand. Thanks.

Same thing got all those error in that log plus High single Core usage jump to a different core randomly. The most annoying problem randomly reboot the wifi any time any hour any day it choose to. Please post the Beta of the beta firmware here please.

This product does not look like it was ready for consumer release.  I bought mine from Best Buy a couple days ago and put the latest firmware(3.0.0.6.102_37435) on it.  Mine has the one random processor spiking  and the 'Failed to get RAIL 0 temperature, ret=256'  and also reboots itself at random times.   I'll give it a week to see if another new firmware fixes this routers issues or I will return it for my money back and keep my RT-AXE7800 in place.

I edited this post to update it.  I had originally posted that thermal errors remained.  But after a second reboot they seem to have vanished.  Still no CPU spikes and memory is pretty constant in the low 70s. I have asked about making the firmware available and I'll post the response from Asus.

I just received a response from Asus support who gave me access to what I'm assuming is the latest build of beta firmware.  The build is 9.0.0.6.102_37803-ga2dcc92_1207-g0fc42_BB0B.  I'm not sure about the build number being 9.0.0.6 but that's what is shown.  Resource usage is much lower but the router has been up for less than 30 minutes at this point.  So far not seeing any spikes as before.  I have not experienced but only one spontaneous reboot.  But I'm watching for those.

A change log wasn't available so I don't know what specific changes were made to the firmware.  I've contacted support with a copy of the system log (not diagnostic bundle) and I'm now waiting on their response.  More to come...

Firmware 37803 , wifi more stable now without disconnecting so far(1hour). Memory usage still high at 725 with nothing on.  Temp read error came back. Plus they fix high single core usage to 3 core at always 100%.

I'm willing to be a beta tester if given the opportunity. please send firmware link if available.
