Rooting is optional.
Yes I have installed TWRP.
There are several tutorial videos in youtube regarding the TWRP installation.
Explaining the process here can be a bit lengthy.

Well, I've been a user of Max Pro M1 since it's launch 2 yrs ago and was literally loosing my cool so Yesterday I did the unbelievable.

I finally Installed Pixel Experience Rom (Android 10 based).

So now no more begging for an update from Asus.

The custom rom made my phone perform just like any Google Pixel device.

Same here. I installed Pixel Experience ROM 2weeks back.
I never found a faulty reason for unlocking boot loader.

Nothing yet. Working like a charm.

There's one thing though I would suggest. Do not install banking apps in Custom Rom. This is just a precaution.

A lot of Custom Rom users have said it's safe. But still Precaution is better than cure.

Also I did not Root my device and I used Asus's "Unlock bootloader" app to unlock the bootloader.

Truely I missed UPI and banking apps.
I am going to buy Mobile internet security and I am going to use Internet banking and IMPS instead of UPI for banking. Use Incognito mode in chrome for sensitive browsing and internet banking . It will not store any data.
We need to make sure of providing right permission to apps. I generally won't use Games , So vulnerability is very low.
