SIM card alternates between emergeny calls only and no service

Ive got an unrooted  Zenfone 9 that I just received back from RMA for a broken screen.

For some reason it wont recognize the SIM card anymore and the status alternates between no service and emergency calls only. I got it to recognize AT&T as the carrier once when I first slotted the card in, but havent been able to get it to do so again.  It doesnt work in either slot, after restarting the device, toggling airplane mode(all the recommended steps to fix this kind of issue I could find). The SIM card works fine in my backup phone (iPhone 6s).

Is there any way for me to fix this problem or do I have to RMA it again?
