Fingerprint reader thread [Mod adjusted thread title]

Hello,
Overall very happy with my ZenFone 8, but I'm running into an issue where the fingerprint reader has basically not worked properly since coming out of the box, usually telling me the sensor is "dirty" and needs to be cleaned.
I managed to get it to remember 2 thumb prints after lots and lots of effort,
It will recognize either print maybe 1 out of 10 times on the lock screen,
Deleting/re-adding the prints did not help much.
I have other phones with standard fingerprint sensors (Samsung) that work perfectly fine, so my skin is probably not the culprit here.
Note: phone is running latest software (.44) and screen is clean, no protector.
Anyone else experience a similar issue and is there a fix? I'd rather not return the phone 😞

I believe you've forgotten to enable the "pick up phone to show indicator" and "tap screen to show indicator" options in your fingerprint settings

yes I have them enabled, but still, I have to touch the phone two times, it's nothing dramatic, I'd just prefer to have the fingerprint image always shown.
thanks anyway

Can you please record that? You shouldn't have to touch it more than once to make the indicator visible

Yes, I mean one to make the indicator visible, and another one to unlock it. If the image was already there I would just need one touch

It has nothing to do with the SoC. It's a combination of which fingerprint reader we use and the software. The more we push the software, the less secure it will be. 1s is fully acceptable. Try experimenting with enrolling your finger again with just one or multiple reads and hopefully, you can make it a little faster

When enroll finger with unlock device then its noticealby faster. Thanks for advice. But I still think that is possible to improve reader speed by pressing it only. Why readers in other brands and cheaper phones works faster? If it is fault of the reader itself, then something is wrong that the poor quality sensor was placed in ZF 8. I don't judge, but lot of users complaining about fingerprint in this model, so something's up.

If you want it to be visible at all times, then you need to use AOD which is quite battery consuming. I believe it's worth your time to tap the device once more to save that battery juice.

I don't know how long it takes for your device to unlock. It takes less than a second for my ZF8 to unlock which I would say is totally acceptable but we will certainly continue to tune it to make it even more reliable
