ASUS Being a Scumbag Company Deserves Federal Attention

Please read up on the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act. Everyone needs to know their rights (US-based). If disclaiming any warranty repair, as the manufacturer, ASUS must prove that something we as customers actually caused the failure of our device (and how). Also, Warranty Void if Removed stickers are illegal and don't have to be honored by the customer. There are other implications to this Warranty Act as well.

I'm learning my lesson. I waited for my warranty to expire before attempting to unlock the bootloader (for fear of negated warranty). Not again! We should have been unlocking these bootloaders left and right without fear of repercussion! Instead of begging for scraps after the fact 😞

ASUS Customers, please watch these two videos: Gamer's Nexus "ASUS Scammed Us" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pMrssIrKcY and Louis Rossman's "ASUS breaks your ROG Ally if you don't pay $200 for warranty repairs: SCAMMING COMPANY!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHQqKi9NcTs

And share. If you feel like you've been defrauded, you may wish to take the advice of these YouTubers and report it.

Scumbag companies deserve to be exposed. I sincerely hope ASUS chooses to course correct after this one.

I think for US based customers this "If disclaiming any warranty repair, as the manufacturer, ASUS must prove that something we as customers actually caused the failure of our device (and how)" is a very important part as regards the ZF8 bricking itself. I cannot comment on the bootloader issue as I have no interest in doing this.

For the bricking issues:

  • For Australian users the Consumer law section 54 seems to cover this. One user here has obtained a full refund.
  • For UK Customers - the Small Claims Court seems to be the obvious route to go. Someone has obtained a full refund for the missing unlocked bootloader I seem to remember. Would have thought a bricked phone is not fit for purpose, so would be able to claim.
  • For EU Customers, I'd have thought that there would be EU wide consumer rights regulations somewhere.
  • For ROW customers, I think that you would need to investigate your own laws to see if there's anything there to go by.
