Using a phone with outdated security patches can pose significant security risks. Security patches are updates released by smartphone manufacturers and operating system developers to fix vulnerabilities and address security flaws in the software. These vulnerabilities can be exploited by malicious actors to gain unauthorized access to your device, steal personal information, or carry out other harmful activities.

Here are some of the security risks associated with using a phone with old security patches:

1. Exploitation of known vulnerabilities: Hackers actively look for security vulnerabilities in outdated software versions. Once they discover a vulnerability, they can create exploits to target devices that haven't received the necessary security patches. This can lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or control of your device.

2. Malware infections: Outdated security patches may not provide protection against the latest malware and malicious apps. Malware can be disguised as legitimate applications or can exploit vulnerabilities to gain control over your device. This can result in data loss, financial theft, or privacy breaches.

3. Lack of protection against new threats: Security patches often address newly discovered threats and vulnerabilities. Without regular updates, your device remains vulnerable to evolving security risks. This includes vulnerabilities in core components like the operating system, browser, and other system-level software.

4. Data breaches: Outdated security patches can make your device more susceptible to data breaches. If your device is compromised, personal information such as passwords, financial details, and sensitive data stored on your phone can be accessed by unauthorized individuals.

5. Limited compatibility with new apps and services: As the software on your device becomes outdated, you may encounter compatibility issues with new applications and services. This can prevent you from accessing the latest features or using apps that rely on up-to-date security features.

If the manufacturer no longer provides security updates for your phone, there are still some steps you can take to mitigate the security risks :

1 - Keep your apps up to date (via playstore)
2 - Implement additional security measures (Enable device encryption, set up a strong passcode or pattern lock, etc)
3 - Disable or uninstall unnecessary apps (Reduce the attack surface... Be selective about the apps you install on your device...)
4 - Use alternative firmware or custom ROMs : https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/asus-zenfone-7-7-pro-roms-kernels-recoveries.11413/
