Besides Samsung, I think ROG Phone is one of the top spec Android phones available in my region. I am not too much into mobile phone gaming as I prefer real game buttons / joysticks / directional pad instead of "rubbing glass".
So is ROG Phone 8 is strong spec phone if I use it for non-gaming purpose? I would use it as daily driver for whatsapp / voice call and social media navigation purposes.

Why not go for Zenfone 11 Ultra instead of ROG Phone 8?
Same SOC but ROG Phone 8 did have better cooling and might be better battery life.

I have a Rog7 Pro and do not game. I like the long battery life and performance. One primary reason for selecting Asus, is avoiding the bloatware from larger mainstream manufacturers. Samsung, OnePlus, Apple, all have manufacturer specific bloatware that cannot be fully removed. Bloatware is a real problem for me as I don't want device manufacturers collecting information that could compromise my client base (I manage small corporate networks). I use the phone primarily for network and device management, remote support for other devices, Microsoft product management, and third party security management. I have had no issues with the device and am considering purchasing a Rog9 Pro when it becomes available and initial (inevitable) bugs have been resolved.
