Port Forwarding not working through WireGuard via VPN Fusion on ASUS TUF-AX4200

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with port forwarding while using WireGuard through the VPN Fusion functionality on my Asus TUF Gaming AX4200 router with the latest firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_33506.

When WireGuard is enabled via VPN Fusion (NAT is also enabled), port forwarding doesn’t seem to work. However, I’ve read that port forwarding works fine when using OpenVPN, but not with WireGuard.

I’d like to know if this is an intentional limitation or a potential bug in the firmware. If intentional, is there any technical reason behind it?

For context, my ISP doesn’t offer a static IP address, and my public IP changes frequently. To resolve this, I rent access to a stable IP address through WireGuard, which works well for general connectivity, but I still need the ability to open ports.

If there’s a fix or workaround I might have missed, I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

In case anyone else has the same issue:

I ended up reaching out to Asus Support about this. They confirmed it's not possible to route port forwarded traffic via WireGuard. This is intentionally done for "security reasons". Asus also stated they will never implement an option to allow this, even though there are other settings that can be turned on and off causing higher security risks. Such a shame and disappointing response from Asus. I honestly can't see how this is disabled for security reasons. It's fully possible to do it manually via SSH/Telnet by using iptables.. and other routers allow this.
