[Healthcare system] Factors influencing monitoring exercise heart rate accuracy

The ASUS VivoWatch calculates exercise heart rate using PPG sensors and the advanced ASUS HealthAI algorithm. However, it's important to note that the VivoWatch differs from medical-grade exercise electrocardiograms (ECGs) and chest straps athletes use, leading to variations in exercise heart rate detection results. To optimize your exercise heart rate monitoring, consider the following recommendations:

(1) Optimize Wearing Position: Make sure the VivoWatch is comfortably and securely worn on your wrist, with the strap neither too loose nor too tight. Avoid placing the watch directly over the ulna bone or wearing it on the inner wrist, as incorrect positioning may affect heart rate detection accuracy.

(2) Environmental Awareness: Extreme temperatures, humidity, and air pressure can influence heart rate detection. Therefore, avoid using the VivoWatch for exercise heart rate monitoring in harsh environmental conditions. Keep the watch dry to prevent sweat interference on the PPG sensors.

(3) Choose the Right Exercise Mode: Some exercises, such as cycling, weightlifting, and pushups, may limit blood flow due to wrist flexion, affecting real-time heart rate measurement accuracy. Select the appropriate exercise mode on the watch to match your activity. Using an incorrect mode may result in inaccurate exercise heart rate readings.

(4) Personalize ASUS HealthConnect Settings: The accuracy of VivoWatch's exercise heart rate algorithm depends on the user's settings in the ASUS HealthConnect App. Before starting exercise heart rate monitoring, make sure your personal data settings (such as height, weight, wrist placement, and stride length) are accurate. Additionally, avoid lending your personal VivoWatch without resetting it to factory settings, which could impact the algorithm's performance.

Exercise heart rate monitoring provided by the VivoWatch is intended for reference purposes only. If you have further questions about exercise heart rate or concerns about your health, it's advisable to consult qualified medical professionals for personalized advice and guidance.
