Zenfone 9 issues - consolidated list of all issues

Hi Everyone, I have been using Zenfone 9 for quite a while. These issues are listed after using software version WW/EU_33.0804.2060.189. I request all of Zenfone 9 fans and users to keep putting your valid issues here so that Asus will take a note of it. As zenfone 9 is a niche phone, if we won't raise a voice here, then Asus might not pay attention to it.

1. GPS: GPS taken 5-6 seconds every time to fetch my location and this is across all the apps. On google maps too, it takes time to detect location after I turn on GPS. Also, during using navigation when I am walking on foot, the direction of the arrow is incorrect. It is incorrect by 30 degrees or so. I hope Asus fixes this perfectly with a software update. 

2. Voice after making a call: On incoming or outgoing normal call, for the 1st 2-3 seconds, the other person can't hear our voice at all. We have to wait 2-3 seconds and then speak 90-95% of times. This is the most annoying and critical bug.

3. Wi-Fi icon on status bar: When Wi-Fi is already on and you swipe down notification panel only once, the Wi-Fi icon is not filled with the color of the notification menu. If my notification color is blue then the icon should be in white with the circle colored in blue.

4. Notifications delay: How can a phone with snapdragon 8+ gen 1 and 8 gb of RAM cannot send notifications as soon as they come? For many apps, the notifications are delayed, viz WhatsApp, Instagram, SMSes and so more. Asus, please fix this or just remove notification option completely because what's the use of delayed notifications?

5. Camera: Turn on HDR and you are a tomato coloured different person altogether. Overprocessing in zenfone 9 camera is so aggressive and inconsistent that the app feels useless sometimes. Selfie camera is good though. @asus, you sell this phone with gimbal as the main feature and can't even make sure Camera is the best thing that this phone must have? Please fix it.

I request moderators and Asus developers, if any, on this website to take a note of these and fix those on priority before software support for this phone expires.

@K052 I checked both your points after the latest android614 stable update. I am not facing these 2 issues. Try to refresh WhatsApp contacts once. Let mods also revert on the same.

@Kaizuka No. The GPS issue is not resolved. It was there in the beta and is present in the stable build too. Please record a video and share the same with any of the mod along with logs. I did it 2-3 days ago. This is a critical issue and its frustrating. You just have to keep waiting till the app takes its own sweet time to detect our location. 😔😒

I tried everything but nothing has changed.

I don't care dual apps issue anymore but side bar menu is really frustrating. I used to use android like this over 7 years and now I can't use one of the most important features for me. All other android devices provides similar side bar menu but it is possible to add any apps. Why asus is like this????

@K052 I can see my contacts on the secondary whatsapp (dual apps) but unable to send any to anyone. When I try to share using attachment>contact in WhatsApp then it does not allow me to select any contact. Is this the same issue you are facing?

Update: Issue number 3 and 4 from the original post are closed in the android 14 update. Rest of the issues still exist. @Mansi_ASUS asked me for logs and I have provided those for issue number 1 and 2. Hoping that these 2 critical bugs get fixed as early as possible.

6. Contact sharing in Dual apps:
In the secondary app in the dual app feature, unable to share contacts on WhatsApp using attachment>contact option in WhatsApp. I can see all the contacts but unable to select any to share.

7. (Critical) battery life decreased:
Battery life/screen on time has decreased a lot after android 14 update. Turn on 5g and the phone does not last even half a day.

8. Reception issues:
It cannot get proper reception and connection gets lost frequently. It is impossible to use phone with mobile network.

9. Bluetooth-Car connectivity:
When bt is connected to car multimedia, the phone immediately start calling to number 10000. This is happening in two different cars.

10. Notifications issue:
The notifications on some apps are only received when I unlock the phone or put it on charge e.g. Gmail, Messenger (from the automatically closed thread https://zentalk.asus.com/t5/zenfone-9/huge-problem-with-notifications/m-p/385657#M5640)

11. (Fixed and resolved) If you enable Notification history in the settings and restart the phone, then it is disabled.

12. Camera app> Photo delete issue:
Open the camera app, take a picture. Open the gallery via the small preview icon next to the shutter button. Delete the photo you have just taken. The photo is deleted forever, skipping the "permanently delete?" checkbox found in the gallery app

13. The desktop clock widget randomly switches between 12- and 24-hour layout

14. The stock launcher icon labels use the outdated "roboto condensed" font, making icon labels very illegible

15. If the google app is uninstalled, the voice input icon in the app drawer's search field is shown anyway
