Patient had been ill for quite some time.
First thing to go was the camera motor, about a year or so ago. Had to use a 3rd party app to fix the image reversal. This was then followed about a month ago by a (non-banking) app refusing to start complaining that my device was rooted, Google wallet refusing to allow me to pay with my saved cards.
This last week though was the death knell. First the wifi suddenly refused to connect, the following day the data of one of the SIMs went off in sympathy, then finally the data of the other SIM.
Poked around, totally unable to restore it, finally tried a factory reset: nothing.

My Zenfone 5Z suddenly became a brick, my Zenfone 7 still works perfectly, and yesterday my Zenfone 11 Ultra also turned off without any warning signs and is now unresponsive – another brick. I can't help, but this is a bit of consolation, unless these phones can die randomly, without user intervention, mechanical damage, or rooting. They were all charged with properly functioning Asus chargers. It's hard to recommend something that stops working on its own, even if you use it properly and take care of it.
