Brand new Zenfone 12 ultra battery issue

Hi!

I got my Zenfone 12 Ultra on Oct 27th, so it's still brand new. I use it daily, mostly for Line, Instagram and taking pictures.

This morning I noticed my battery was abnormally low. It was 100% around 3 am when I woke up and checked something, and around 7:20 am it had dropped to 24%. My phone locks after 30 sec, so it couldn't have stayed on all night. I checked the battery usage and the biggest one was “System apps” at the bottom of the list.

I turned it off and on again, charged it to 100% and waited. The battery was normal from 9 am to 2 pm, then started draining fast again. Around 5 pm it was already down to 42%. The graph shows the drain started around 2 pm, and again “System apps” is the biggest usage.

One of my friends has the same phone and she had the same issue for the first time today too. The phone feels slightly warm even if I don't touch it and nothing is open. I searched a bit online and turned off “Automatically sync data” in Accounts, just in case, but it didn't help.

I took screenshots but I can't share them. My phone was at 41% at 17:33 and dropped to 22% at 18:39 without any use. My total screen-on time today was a bit over 1 hour.

The system is fully updated, version 35.1810.1810.439, but I don’t know when that update came out.

Did anyone else face this issue? I’d love to hear if others are seeing the same thing — I really don’t want to send the phone for warranty repair already if it’s just a software bug.

That kind of sudden drain from “System apps” usually points to a background service getting stuck after an update, especially since your friend’s phone showed the same behavior today. The warmth you’re feeling also matches a process looping in the background rather than normal usage. Since the phone behaves normally for a few hours and then drops quickly, it’s likely a software bug rather than a hardware fault. I’d wait a bit to see if others report it too or if Asus pushes a quick patch before considering warranty repair. ,
