Zenbook S16 Touchpad not working after Hibernation

thunderbug1

My Zenbook S16 has touchpad recognition issues after Hibernation where it would sometime not work after waking up from hibernation.

This issue affects Windows as well as Linux, so it must be a low level issue. As far as I can tell, the I2C Device of the touchpad is not detected anymore after Hibernation.
The only fix I found is to restart the Laptop multiple times until it randomly starts working again after a reboot. However, it often takes over 10 reboots until it works again.

This is my system:

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Since the touchpad stops working only after waking from hibernation and the I2C device is not detected in either Windows or Linux, this points to a low-level issue rather than an operating system or driver problem.

Here are a few steps you can try:

1. Make sure your BIOS and firmware (including the ASUS Precision Touchpad firmware) are fully up to date using MyASUS or the official support page. Issues with I2C devices after sleep/hibernation can sometimes be resolved with firmware updates.

2. As a workaround, disable Windows hibernation and allow the system to use Sleep instead. This can help confirm whether the issue is specifically tied to hibernation states.

3. Restart the laptop and enter the BIOS. If the touchpad is not detected or does not respond there, this strongly suggests a hardware or firmware controller issue.

Since you've already identified that the I2C device disappears completely after hibernation, and it sometimes takes many reboots to return, this may indicate an intermittent hardware issue on the touchpad module, the I2C line, or the mainboard. For this you will need to contact the service center for additional help:
