TM420IA charging intermittently/unreliably, won’t charge when turned on

My TM420IA holds a charge, but it doesn’t automatically charge when plugged in - it’s gotten to the point where it will go days before the orange light comes on to indicate that it’s charging. It also only seems to charge in sleep mode, and not when it’s plugged in and in use. 

I haven’t tried anything like updating the BIOS yet (I’m a relative novice and have been warned off updating my BIOS without knowing what I’m doing), I suspect it may be more of a hardware issue.

Are you using the charger provided by us? 
Since the issue you reported may be related to both software and hardware, if you are not familiar with these aspects, it is recommended that you seek assistance from a friend who is more knowledgeable about computers.

2. Ensure that the BIOS version you are using is updated to the latest version, and you can use MyASUS to run a battery diagnostic.
