ROG Phone 9 navigation button problem 36.0810.1810.43

Hello, I have updated my Rog phone 9 Pro with newest update 36.0810.1810.43  and immediately got problem with navigation buttons, they delay, freeze, I get to push harder or to double push to make them work. Home button works fine, but sometimes it delays. App menu delays, and back button delays even more. Also, navigation in app menu is less smooth. I turned off predictive option, buttons delays less. Restarting helps for a little time, after some time buttons keeps delaying. I Haven't tried gestures - I don't like them, but switching to gesture navigation can help to someone. Also, When I return from the application window to the main menu, my phone wallpaper is black for a split second, I use wallpaper engine for cool animation, but I don't know, maybe this problem with interaction with the application only for me.

I have googled about buttons problem, it's something with navigation prediction, I think the developers broke something. Many people with this android 16 have the same problem. It's very frustrating because I can't do anything about it. Before the update, experience of using phone was better, the phone worked faster and smoother and I had no problems with ui.

I looked online, and it seems that maybe the Android developers don't have a fix yet for button problem, even for their own phones.

Will we get one after some time?

Hello @StacyRog

I would like the team to look into this, could you maybe share a log while recreating the same issue?

I'm sharing how to do a log down below and please feel free to send me a DM when you are done.

Please follow the below steps to enable the built-in log tool (Bug reporter).
1.  Open “Calculator APP”
2.  Enter “.19595+=”
3.  Select the Log type according to the type of issue you want to capture. “General cases” will work for most issues.
4.  After your selection the log tool will exit so you can duplicate the issue or wait for it to happen. Try to use the screen recorder to show your issue when possible. If you can't screen record your issue, then please take a screenshot right after the issue has occurred (as a timestamp) so we know where to look in the log.
5.  Navigate back to the log tool via calculator and Tap "FINISH AND SHARE".
6. It takes several minutes for the log to generate. You can exit and do other stuff in the meantime. A silent notification will tell you once the process is done. Tap the notification and then the share button to upload the file to Google Drive and share the link with a moderator. Just make sure to change the permission first so that everyone with the link has permission to view it.
Note: When you're no longer planning on logging your device, enter “.09595+=” in the calculator and the log tool will stop as well as deleting all stored log files. Make sure to share via calculator. The files found in internal storage -> asus_log are not the correct files (they are only 1.2kb)

Strange... I turned off navigation prediction, and after a couple of hours I haven't used my phone, took it to game on, made some photos and noticed that buttons doesn't delay. Problem somehow disappeared, I haven't updated anything.

I will write here again if it will happen again.

There is another thread here about the same problem, read it. As for black screen issue - it's cause of wallpaper engine, since I used it too. Turn it off if you want it gone, there is also a delay with it when you swap apps, it's much faster without WE. I really love the program itself, but we should probably wait till devs of WE patch it if they can.

Thank you for your help, I'll take a look and change wallpaper it to make experience better.
