ROG Phone 7 – Speaker Volume Imbalance After System Update (Suspected Software Issue)

Hello, I would like to share my experience as a ROG Phone 7 (WW / Global) user.

After a recent system update, I noticed an abnormal change in speaker behavior, specifically a volume imbalance, even though the device has no physical damage.

Behavior during multimedia playback (YouTube, videos, music):

• Both speakers are active

• However, the top speaker is noticeably louder

• The bottom speaker sounds weaker than before

• Stereo balance feels unnatural compared to prior system versions

Test results:

• Using the SMMI / Calculator hardware speaker test:

  • Only the bottom speaker produces sound

  • The top speaker does not output sound in this test

• In contrast, during normal multimedia playback:

  • The top speaker works and is even louder

  • This indicates different behavior between hardware-level testing and software-level audio playback

This discrepancy suggests:

• Audio routing inconsistency

• Possible driver or speaker tuning changes introduced by the system update

• Software-level gain or channel compensation masking the issue during app playback

Additional notes:

• The device has never been dropped

• No water exposure

• Never disassembled

• Audio settings have been reset, and a factory reset was performed

After reviewing multiple threads on the official ASUS forum, I found that many ROG Phone 7 users report similar speaker issues after system updates, especially related to volume reduction and speaker imbalance.

Based on these observations, I suspect this is related to:

• A system update bug

• Audio driver or speaker tuning configuration

• Changes introduced in recent firmware versions

I hope ASUS can:

• Provide an official clarification

• Investigate audio-related changes in recent updates

• Deliver a permanent fix in a future system update

Are there other ROG Phone 7 users experiencing a louder top speaker and weaker bottom speaker after a system update?

I have rog 8 pro After os 16 updated then volume loudness reduced before os 16 update 50% volume enough loudness but now 50% enough loudness it's internally Asus team do this I have also OnePlus 11R but there is no issue after os 16 update.

I think I made a post about that some time ago with the same issue.

Are they pretty much the same volume if you reduce the left channel by 3db? That's the difference for me.

I've made a workaround via macrodroid and published it as a template. It isn't perfect, but I think it's better than nothing. Works for me so far, though a bit slow sometimes and it will consume a little bit of battery and performance.

I will work on some improvements.

You will also need Shizuku to run the shell commands.
