I own this same phone and experience the same problem often.  Sometimes force closing the camera/video calling app your using fixes it.  Sometimes switching to a different application works like Google camera.    Restarting your phone AFTER force closing the affected app basically always works for me if none of the above worked    it is annoying but it's without a doubt an operating system issue.

I have this issue, too... For quite some time, and as Asus support replied to me...Except for resetting to factory settings, others are not working for me.

To address the issue of being unable to switch back camera to front camera on ROG Phone, please consider the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Reboot your phone and launch the camera again to check if both front and rear cameras are working.
2. Clear the camera data and cache by going to Settings > Apps & notifications > SEE ALL xxx APPS > Camera > Storage & Cache > execute CLEAR STORAGE and CLEAR CACHE. Ensure to backup your photo and video files before executing CLEAR STORAGE.
3. Update the Camera app from Google Play and then start the Camera (front & rear camera) again.
4. Update the firmware to the latest version by going to Settings > System > System update > Check Update.
5. Access Safe Mode by long pressing the power key, tapping and holding the Power Off option in the menu, and tapping OK. If the phone works well in Safe Mode but not after restarting, it might be due to third-party applications. Backup all data and perform a factory data reset.
6. Backup your data and perform a factory data reset. Note that all data, apps, settings, and personal information will be deleted after initialization.
7. If the issue persists, please contact ASUS Product Support for further assistance.

Hello @Tiantian1

This could be a hardware issue, you can try it by doing a SMMI test, for this you need to open the calculator app and type ".12345+=" from here you can choose "Single test" and do the "Front Camera1 Test"
If that option is missing or if it fails then it need to be looked into, for this I'd recommend your closest ASUS Service Center.
https://www.asus.com/support/service-center-location/

This problem is happening to rog phone 6 and 8 too .
It is not a hardware issue, if that was the case, Asus have a BIG design failure. because almost everyone has it.

There are multiple of threads about this on this forum.
My Rog phone 6 does exactly the same, turning of & on the phone solves it SOMETIMES.
The Phone locks on wide angular camera. Even when you are at 1x/2x/4x zoom is always using the wide angular, and when changing to 0.6x, its just Blurry and focused as "macro".
The "front camera button" dissapears as the picture  up here
Any apps trying to access the camera just opens the frontal camera by default ( like QR scanning apps, that are supposed to only open rear camera. and you cant change wich cam use on those apps)
And if  that wasnt enough....  The phone FREEZES and REBOOTS.
If you are using facial recognition, you cant open the camera app inmediatly, or it will freeze the phone with a blackscreen. and starts a reboot loop.

Currentrly tried:
Upgrading to latest firmware by settings->updates.
Upgrading to latest firmware by downloading an official and more advanced rom .
Cache and data clear.
Factory reset
Nothing works. Just turning off and on again until the main camera works.
its a design falure, almost like programmed obsolescence.
Never buying asus phones again, customer service doesnt recognize this as an error of warrany. And my country doesnt have official asus tech support , cant fix it.
