OK I got it to work. But I had to do it a specific way. First connected a cable between my PC and port 4 of the switch. Set my PC to static IP of 192.168.1.52. So there is no router involved (i.e. no internet) just the PC and switch. Chrome and Firefox didn't work and I had to use MS-Edge Version 147.0.3912.86 (Official build) (64-bit). Firmware files were stored on C: drives NTFS partition (it doesn't require a FAT32 or a USB stick smaller than 32GB). With this setup I repeated what I had tried many times before and that was to upgrade in stages first 3.0.7.5 after this worked it sets the switch to factory defaults and you have to set the admin password again. Then upgrade to 3.0.7.18 this works but unlike the 1st step it does not reset the switch to factory defaults. Then finally repeat the procedure again with 3.0.7.25. This particular stage shows the typical count down message "Upload image file, please wait for 150 seconds" just like the first 2 times, but it then pops up a second countdown message "Erase and write flash data, please wait 150 seconds". This message did not appear in the 1st and 2nd upgrades only on this 3rd one. The IP address now changes without issue. The Web interface is way quicker and for the first time the switch actually responds to ping. Previously it never did that (it's as if ICMP echo request was some how turned off in the factory delivered firmware. Hope this helps others thanks

Can't upgrade firmware of ASUS EBP15 switch from 3.0.6.2 & won't accept changes to the Management IP

I recently bought an ASUS EBP15 5 port POE+ switch. Out of the box it ships with v3.0.6.2 firmware. First of all it won't accept changing the factory default management IP address of 192.168.1.50. Changing it through the Web interface says it's complete and even after removing power it shows the switch is on the new IP address but I can't only access it via the factory IP address. I tried upgrading the firmware to 3.0.7.5 and also 3.0.7.18 and also 3.0.7.25.

Each time after waiting the obligatory 150secs or what ever the time was it still shows it is on the factory firmware. I am aware of another thread telling people to connect it to "AI mesh system" but I don't have any other ASUS device only this switch. I'm using a windows 10 PC with the firewall disabled. This is the second switch I got from the vendor as the 1st one ended up with a non working port 4 but even that switch had exactly the same 2 problems. The files I am using are,

EBP15_3.0.7.5_web_upgrade.bin

EBP15_3.0.7.18_web_upgrade.bin

EBP15_3.0.7.25_web_upgrade.bin

each of those firmware packages also come with another files EBP15_3.0.X.X_flash.bin which are significantly larger in size 16MB roughly and it won't accept them saying the file is larger than the acceptable 8MB limit. Any Suggestions

This sounds like you may have downloaded the files using the wrong format on the storage medium. The medium needs to be formatted FAT32.

Are you extracting the file before trying to upload. It has to be extracted.

Be sure to follow 4.6.1 in the user manual. But first, try setting the IP back to original and do a factory reset.

Thanks for replying. The firmware downloaded from ASUS is a zip file "FW_EBP15_30725.zip" and yes I unzipped the contents revealing one file "EBP15_3.0.7.25_web_upgrade.bin" as already mentioned.

I also went through the User manual section 4.6.1 before posting, which is just one picture which is not difficult to follow. Have factory reset this thing many times and as it won't take another IP address I have not choice but to use the Factory IP address of 192.168.1.50. The only thing I haven't tried is a medium formatted with FAT32 as windows always installs as NTFS. So I tried extracting the zip file to a USB stick formatted with FAT32 and tried again. It went through the standard 150 secs upload time and when it got to zero, I lost contact with the web interface (which is what you would expect) and waited 15 mins. The switch reboots and the activity lights comes on but the web interface never comes up. I end up having to pull power from switch only then will the web interface come back. Which is what happens every time I've tried this process. It's still on the factory firmware and I still can't change the factory IP address.

Do you have a router providing DHCP service to your network?

It is my understanding from reading the manual that it can get assigned IP address from an upstream router, connected to port #5 if I did not misread:

4.1.2 IP Settings

DHCP Settings -> Enable

I'm afraid 3.0.7.18 says it fixes a firmware update issue.

If it takes exactly 150 seconds for the progress bar to end, then you need to wait another 150 seconds before it reboots, then I'm afraid the unit is restoring the old version during the second 150 seconds.

I'm pretty sure I did this for one GT-AXE16000 firmware update, which was power it off immediately when the progress bar finished....

Thanks for replying. The link you sent in your first reply is just a "how to setup the switch" which I have seen before and used the exact process to setup the switch initially. That process shows a client connecting to the switch via port 4 using a static IP with nothing else (i.e. No router connected just 1 switch and 1 PC). Even in that standalone scenario it refuses to upgrade to either 3.07.18 or 3.07.25 and I have left it 15 mins which is far longer than your suggested 150 wait time on top of the first 150 secs to upload the firmware. I've even tried with the switch connected to a router running DHCP and this thing won't get one. It is literally stuck on the factory 192.168.1.50 and won't accept DHCP or a static IP. This is the reason I tried to update the firmware in the first place to try and resolve this stuck IP issue and it won't even do a firmware upgrade. This exact problem was present on the first switch I got which I had to return due to a problem with one of the ports failing and the switch becoming excessively hot with nothing plugged into it.

Just to be clear I've noted the fixes listed on each of the firmware versions according to ASUS documentation.

How large is the USB stick you are using. You need to use one of less than 32GB. I have seen this requirement to be even lower where even a 16GB stick was too large. You could try partitioning the USB and extracting the file to a smaller partition.

I tried it with 32GB USB stick. Honestly what you are describing I've have seen with devices that were pulling firmware from USB sticks that were plugged directly into their USB ports. In this case it's pulling the file over a web browser so I don't think the size of the USB stick or it's format or even having the file reside on my PC's C: drive which is formatted with NTFS has anything to do with the problem. Non the less, I tried your suggestion with a 2GB USB stick and again the same issue. I do appreciate the suggestion though. ASUS's wording which accompanies both firmware (i.e. v3.0.7.18 and v3.0.7.25) suggest they address issues with upgrading firmware via the web interface as well as with the factory IP issue but the wording is very vague.

Agree with you. It's very concerning that out of the box the unit has problems with setting a different Management IP, but this is really just low end kit so it's hardly suprising. I've done my fair share of firmware upgrades on many types of hardware and have always prefered a Console cable with Putty, cli and a TFTP server. Like you I also had issues going to 3.0.7.5 with CRC errors and just kept persisting unitl it worked on the 3rd attempt. I never saw the CRC errors previously so that at least was something different.
