That's really weird! I did have wifi off yesterday but not for long. For me, it works fine with Wifi on...after I go into the secret settings. Agreed, I am also looking for a new phone. This experience really ruined the brand for me, and paired with the Asus ZenScreen I bought in March that had a backlight so dim it was almost unusable for me, I won't be buying anything Asus anytime soon, sad to say.
yea its so inconsistent right!?!?
anyway i just installed the google phone app out of desperation. not sure if it will help but i'm just gonna try anything now lol. i'll report back when i see how it goes.
ok google phone didn't fix anything lol. I'm now just using 2g/3g mode. we'll see how that goes.
I have noticed that if Visual Voicemail is running in the background I often cannot receive calls. IME VVm won't work on just Wi-Fi, and needs a cell signal. If the phone doesn't support either VoLTE or VoWiFi, then when VVm is used, obviously there is no way to receive other calls, because the cell connection is already in use for data. If the phone periodically turns off the Wi-Fi while the screen is off and just uses cell data instead for whatever app might be doing anything internet-y, in all those periods calls would not come in.
Asus, why is VoLTE/Wi-Fi calling still not functional? What exactly is holding this back?
We're trying to figure that out. I have a test form ready to go for this issue, and have sent PMs to multiple users. So far I have had 0 responses.
If you guys are willing to help, tag me and I can throw you a PM with instructions. This thread has lots of activity, but so far no one has volunteered to help me test this issue.
hmmm thats interesting. i'll try to close out apps running in the background and see if that helps. so far i've been connected to 2g/3g and no problems yet. calls i make connect quickly and are really clear on both ends. data speeds are slower than 4g as expected but still not too bad. i'll keep you all updated.
I don't have another line to call myself from, so I cannot effectively do whatever you requested in the PM. Why is this dependent on the users? Unless you are asserting that this is not a reproducible problem, Asus makes the phone, and Asus should have the capability to test the phone.
i logged in just to 'Like' your post LOL!
I'll help again if I can, but the logs that I gave before you told me they said didn't show any problem. Having said that, I have not knowingly had any missing texts or calls in several weeks since I turned off wifi calling in the settings. Maybe that is a coincidence. I definitely HAVE had issues with poor coverage (and missing texts) in one specific area which I think is due to not having voLTE. With my old phone (which had voLTE) I have still can get a modest LTE signal in that home. With the Zen6 there is zero signal 100% of the time. Maybe it is just the quality or effectiveness of the antenna and maybe it has nothing to do with voLTE.
It's such a great phone, but VoLTE/WiFi calling is necessary and made me go elsewhere (OnePlus 8). I wish I had never unlocked the bootloader. Waste of $600. Such a shame.
nice! i'm looking at oneplus too! or even the pixel. i really need a phone that works.
hope it works out better for you!
asus zenfone 6 for sale! excellent condition but may not work reliably on t-mobile in the US for calls and texts.
If you already unlocked bootloader, you can make volte/vowifi to work easily.
You can't though.
why？ There is post in xda and someone confirmed it works
imo we shouldn't have to do bootloader unlocking and all kinds of secret codes just to get reliable phone and text messaging. now maybe if we wanted to sideload apps or games or do some other crazy stuff then yah lol.
I'd hardly call that easy. Anything that involves more than just installing an app and clicking a button isn't "easy". Especially if you don't use Windows and can't use the silly person's Windows-only utilities.
It may work in some other countries, but it doesn't work in the US (I've tried). Asus has already confirmed it isn't bringing VoLTE and WiFi calling to the Zenfone 6 in the US.
I thought there were at least a few people in that thread that confirmed it working on a Zenfone 6 and TMobile. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.
I can only replicate with the text delay, calls are coming in fine.
I'm not trying to make trouble or anything but for those saying they aren't missing calls, are you 100% sure? because the way i found out i was missing calls was by using the t-mobile digits app and seeing missed calls there. using the dialer, since the calls never appear in the history, you will never know you missed any unless they left a vm or told you they called. just wondering. thanks.
