I'm using android phones from various brands without antivirus from past 5 years. If you use phone properly there is no antivirus needed. I mean to say if you visit comprised website or opening an email with attachment with virus then your phone will get virus. But by default android doesn't need any anti-virus.

If there are probabilities of attacks, then why Google releases security patches every month???

Even Microsoft releases security patch for Windows operating system. But still we have Windows defender in Windows 10 and other anti virus too. Google security patches will not defend you from malwares. It will fix the operating system kernel based loop holes.
Many Android based apps are available in Play Store. Even some of the apps are having verified status too. Still there are changes that through these apps there are lot of bolt ware entered silently into our mobile. There are certain bolt ware that can damage even boot loader too.
If are a game lover then , you are the source of this bolt ware to steal information. Internet Security software keep eye on up and down network traffic when we have paid version. But trial version will keep us in making our mobile free from such bolt wares through manual scans
