Gboard dissapears when I click on suggested word

I have been using GBoard for a really long time and never had any issues. But now I bought a new phone (ASUS Zenfone 9) and i'm experiencing a really annoying bug: When I click on a suggested word there's about a 70% chance that the keyboard closes (as if I was finished writing) so I have to tap back in the text zone to reopen it.
This is very frustrating. Will post on Google forums as well

I heard back from the R&D department and they require the following information from your end:
Which apps are you using the Gboard for?
What are your Gboard settings? (Keyboard height, show number row)
Do you use the navigation bar or make use of gesture navigation?
